Practising Falun Dafa, Curing Cancer, and Embracing a New Life

Mr. Liu Hongji, 64 years old, worked for the Qingdao Aquarium. He retired in 1986 and lived in Dongnvgushan Village of Liuting Town in the Chengyang District of Qingdao City, Shandong Province, China. Due to long years of hard work and old age, Liu had various diseases. Especially during the years after his retirement, he experienced symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, weakness in his legs and feet, and high blood pressure. Later he suffered from arteriosclerosis and couldn't control the muscles of his mouth and eyes. His mobility was also significantly impaired. Gradually he could no longer walk normally and his blood pressure remained very high. He was hospitalised at least twice a year and each time the medical expenses reached 20,000 to 30,000 yuan (the Chinese currency; 500 yuan is equal to the average monthly income of an urban worker in China). As his old work unit had to pay 90% of these medical expenses and he was responsible for the rest, his treatment placed a heavy financial burden on his work unit and his family.

During a hospital check-up in 1997, the doctor diagnosed a tumour on Liu Hongji's liver. A second exam revealed that the tumour had spread. An MRI at the University Hospital of Shandong Province in Qingdao City disclosed another tumour on the backside of the liver. Both University Hospital and the No. 401 Hospital suggested surgery. His family heard that Wanjie Hospital in Zibo City, Shandong Province, used a "gamma knife"1 procedure to treat tumours with good results. After enquiring, Liu Hongji's family learnt that the gamma knife treatment would be expensive. His two tumours had to be treated separately, and each would cost around 40,000 yuan. His family borrowed 20,000 yuan from his old work unit, and he had the first surgery at the Wanjie Hospital.

The surgery was a heavy financial burden and harmful to his whole body. One surgeon soon discovered that Liu Hongji had worked at the Qingdao Aquarium. The doctor took advantage of this situation and requested a vacation trip to Qingdao City for his whole family. This presented Liu with a further financial burden, but he felt he could not refuse the doctor's request.

The surgery actually gave Liu Hongji the opportunity to obtain a new life. When he left the hospital, one doctor gave him a prescription of drugs worth over 3,000-yuan. Another doctor told him, "After you go home, don't worry too much about your cancer and just practise Falun Gong." The doctor then told Liu the benefits of practising Falun Gong. Through this predestined relationship, Liu learnt about Falun Dafa and started his practise. After he got home, he put aside all the medications he had bought from the hospital and started practising Falun Gong with his wife. From then on, he never took a single pill.

Before practising Falun Gong, Liu Hongji was well known for his quick temper. After practising Falun Gong his temper was gentle and he became warm-hearted and considerate. His health progressed as the dizziness and headache disappeared, his legs and feet gained strength, and his appetite improved. It has been over six years since he stopped taking pills. Everyone around him and in his work unit learnt about these incredible changes. It had a very positive effect, and many people started to practise Falun Gong.

After July 20th, 1999, Jiang Zemin's political gang started the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners out of jealousy. Their fabricated rumours and falsified charges have deceived and poisoned many people. Liu Hongji had solid belief in Falun Gong, and he went to Beijing to lawfully and peacefully appeal for an end to the persecution. He trusted that the government would correct its erroneous policy. Before he arrived in Beijing, he was intercepted and taken home. Afterward the local government and police frequently harassed him. He was once abducted to the Qingdao City's 6-10 Office (an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems) for further persecution. They extorted 1,000 yuan from his family for his release.

On the seventh day of the 2003 Chinese New Year, Liu Hongji was eating when he suddenly felt uncomfortable and began to sweat and vomit. There was a trace of blood in his vomit. His daughter-in-law was frightened and urged him to go to the hospital. Liu was clear-minded and he knew that whatever he encountered in his cultivation could not be solved by ordinary people's methods. He firmly believed in Falun Gong and Teacher and finally overcame the illness. He is now in very good health. Now nobody would believe that he was once a cancer patient. After seeing the result, even his daughter-in-law, who was very stubborn, could not help admiring the "miracle" of Falun Dafa.

"Miracles" are not just "coincidences." There are so many Falun Gong practitioners in China and worldwide, and there are so many miracles. There are thousands and tens of thousands, so many that it would be impossible to count them all. Can you still say they are all coincidences?
