Poland: Chinese Diplomats Use Illegal Actions in Attempts to Stop Falun Gong Appeal

The beginning of June 2004 saw a visit from the Chinese President Hu Jintao to Poland, accompanied by Minister of Trade Bo Xilai, who has played a significant and extremely evil role in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Because of this, Bo Xilai has already been the subject of legal action in other countries that he has visited, including the United Kingdom, Germany and the United States. Polish practitioners also employed legal action to file a lawsuit against this human rights criminal. As reported in the Polish News Bulletin, "the Chinese Falun Gong spiritual movement filed a suit against China's Trade Minister Bao Xilai, who is accompanying the president. They enclosed in their summons a list of 95 Falun Gong members who have died during repressions in Liaoning province."

Bo Xilai actively follows Jiang Zemin in persecuting Falun Gong. During his term as Mayor of Dalian City, Dalian City was one of the cities where the persecution of Falun Gong was most severe. When he became the Governor of Liaoning Province, Liaoning Province became one of the provinces where the persecution of Falun Gong was equally severe. Up to the 1st of December 2003, it has been verified that at least ninety-five Falun Gong practitioners were persecuted to death in Liaoning Province, ranking fourth worst in the country. The persecution is extremely brutal in many labour camps of Liaoning Province, such as in Masanjia Slave Labour Camp, Dabei Prison and Dalian "Re-education" Centre where the conditions are described as a human hell.

In front of the Polish President’s Palace in Warsaw on June the 8th 2004, six practitioners of Falun Gong gathered to peacefully appeal to welcome Hu Jintao and call for the cheif instigator in the persecution of Falun Gong, Jiang Zemin, and the persecutor who was in Poland, Bo Xilai, to be brought to justice. Local practitioners were accompanied by others who came from Germany to support them.

As the Chinese diplomats arrived, they saw the practitioners' beautiful banners reading, “Bring Jiang Zemin To Justice”, “Falun Dafa is Good” and “Falun Dafa: Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance”. As some practitioners were holding banners, others demonstrated the five sets of Falun Gong exercises. One passer-by who does not practise Falun Gong came to join the practitioners' appeal and hold a banner. It is obvious that he had a strong sense of justice. Many Chinese people were present and practitioners gave them leaflets revealing the truth about the campaign of genocide being waged against the 100 million Falun Gong practitioners in China.

A passerby with a sense of justice came to join the practitioners' appeal

After some time, about twenty to thirty Chinese people appeared carrying big, red flags. To the practitioners' surprise, they stood in front of us, purposefully covering our banners with those red flags. We used more effort to hold our banners higher so that we could be seen by passing cars and the Chinese delegates. Practitioners had heard that Chinese Embassies around the world often organise local Chinese people to come and stand outside the Embassy for these sorts of visits. This was a great chance for Polish practitioners to let them know more about Falun Gong and that what they have heard from Jiang Zemin's propaganda machine is not true.

Some of the Chinese people had been heavily influenced by Jiang's lies but because they spoke Polish we were able to explain the facts to them. Later on, when a reporter called the Chinese Embassy, they confirmed that they had organised the welcome. The Embassy staff tried to convince the police that the Chinese characters on our banners had a negative meaning and that those words did not mean the same as what was written on the Polish banners. The Embassy were willing to do whatever they could to prevent Chinese diplomats from seeing our banners. This tactic has been used before in Germany but the German police were wise enough to have their own independant translator who assured them that the practitioners' Chinese banners were as peaceful and compassionate as the rest of their appeal.

As we were exchanging our points of view, a Chinese agent forcefully grabbed two of our banners out of our hands and ran away. The crowd started pushing us back, making loud noises in front of us. Some of them were even blocking the street. After intervention from the police, they later started pushing us around again. When I wanted to take some pictures of their unruly behaviour, one of them hit me with his flag. When the media was taking pictures and filming the event, there were also instances where people from the Chinese group would cover their camera lens with little Chinese Flags, hands or open umbrellas. We felt sad that the Jiang regime tricks them into acting in such a way when we were trying to tell people about the enormous human rights abuses against peaceful Falun Gong practitioners in China.

Chinese agents steal Falun Gong banners

Soon a car with a diplomatic licence plate blocked our way. The driver of the car got out, trying to forcefully steal more of our banners. This happened right in front of the Polish police. After some help from the Polish police, we were able to hold our banners again, but not for long. A big tourist bus parked in front of us, completely blocking us out of view. Nobody could see us. The Chinese officials' tactics were really a disgrace and bring a bad name to the Chinese people.

A bus was used to block the practitioners' appeal

As well as our group, there was one which appealed on Tibetan issues as well as human rights.
They were treated in a similar way as we were. They lost four of their banners through the attack of the Chinese agents. I know from the media that a billboard regarding the situation in Tibet was covered with oil paint during the night. It is said this was done by people from the Chinese embassy.
