Elderly Practitioner Dies at Hands of Wuan City Police

Mr. Wang Gaibian, was a 63 year old resident of Wuan City, which is in Handan Area of Hebei Province. In March 2002, he was arrested for distributing Falun Dafa truth-clarification materials and detained at the Wuan Detention Centre, and was then sent to a labour camp in June. Because medical examinations indicated that he was very weak, the labour camp refused to take him. He was therefore taken back to the detention centre. Because of the brutal torture he received, his legs were swollen and he had difficulty swallowing food. Seeing that he was in critical condition, the detention centre extorted 3000 Yuan [500 Yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China] from his family and asked them to take him home. Even after returning home, Mr. Wang still didn't recover, and on April 18, 2003, he passed away. The people directly responsible for his death are awaiting investigation.
