On April 6, 2024, Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong) practitioners set up an information booth near the shopping center in the Pantelimon District of Bucharest. The event aimed to let people know about the spiritual practice and how it emphasizes the importance of following Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance.

Practitioners told people that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) persecutes Falun Dafa.

Many passersby said the practitioners’ efforts were welcome and helped to uphold moral values. Many people encouraged them to persevere.

The Persecution Should Stop

Anca was impressed and pleasantly surprised to see the practitioners’ activities, but what she admired the most was how practitioners promoted moral principles such as Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance.

“Respecting these principles is the most important thing for people, especially nowadays when society is so degenerated, when you see people doing all kinds of bad things and disrespecting each other on television and in the media,” said Anca.

She urged practitioners to help as many people as possible to adopt these values in their own lives and praised their efforts to raise awareness of the persecution in China.

“By trying to be good and at the same time telling people about the persecution in China, you also help the practitioners there. The CCP should stop the persecution and stop doing evil,” she said.

Accompanied by her granddaughter Sofia, an older woman asked about the purpose of the event. Learning that Falun Dafa is based on the values of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance, she expressed her surprise that such values were being promoted in today’s world.

“Dafa is talking about the role of moral principles in society! Very good! In this upside-down society we are living in today, there is a practice that teaches people to be good and to have moral principles,” said the woman. “This is about education.”

We Need Such Values

Another woman who asked about Falun Dafa was given detailed information. When she heard the principles of the practice, she said, “We need such values, but where do we find them in today’s world?”

She talked about her struggle to raise her children in today’s world, which is often full of negative influences. “We are raising our granddaughters to be decent, like it was before communism [in Romania]. We teach them how to behave,” she said. “At school the girls’ headmistress said their manners were old-fashioned.”

The woman was happy to hear that practitioners were actively holding themselves to traditional standards of morality in their daily lives. She asked for calendars and flyers with Falun Dafa information to give to her neighbors so they could also learn about the practice.

Raisa and Irina, two young women, said Falun Dafa’s values are good and complimented the practitioners for living according to these values despite the temptations of the world.

They said they wanted to practice them as well. “Although it’s not always easy to tell the truth, and sometimes you don’t manage to be really good,” said Raisa. As for tolerance, Irina said that, “It’s good to control ourselves, although we often don’t.”

“What beautiful principles!” exclaimed one of four high school girls when they read the calendars practitioners handed them. They also appreciated the lotus flowers that practitioners gave them, explainining they were a symbol of goodness and purity.

When they heard about the persecution, the girls were saddened. “It’s a pity!” said one of them.

“Practitioners in China should be saved, even more so because they are doing something good.”

Some people said they already knew of the CCP’s many abuses of its citizens. Ana Maria was one of them, but she didn’t know that the CCP was harvesting organs from Falun Dafa practitioners and other prisoners of conscience to sell for profits. This struck her deeply.

“It’s terrible what’s happening in China. These [practitioners] should be saved, more so because they are doing something good. What happened to us under Ceaușescu is happening to them—they are being persecuted and killed there,” she said.

When a woman in her 40s and her husband asked for information about Falun Dafa, she was astonished to learn about the human rights violations targeting practitioners in China—which has gone on since 1999.

“The persecution of moral values and practitioners in China has been going on for over 20 years and only now have I heard about this!” she exclaimed.

“It’s a very good thing that practitioners are here to tell us about Falun Dafa because people need to be guided by moral values.”
