U.S. Medical Doctor Arrested in China, Faces Dubious Charges That Could Mean Up To 15 Years in Prison

Friends, family and fellow practitioners of Falun Gong hold a press conference in front of the Chinese consulate calling for the immediate release of U.S. Citizen, Dr. Charles Li -- a medical doctor wrongfully arrested in China.

SAN FRANCISCO (FDI) -- Friends, family and fellow practitioners of Falun Gong held a press conference in front of the Chinese consulate on Thursday January 30, to urge the Chinese government to release Dr. Charles Li, a US citizen and resident of Menlo Park, California.

Dr. Li's fiancée, Ms. Yeong-ching Foo, appealed for his unconditional release. "Charles is a loving and caring person." Ms. Foo said. "He was going to spend the Chinese New Year with his parents." His so-called "crime" is that he happens to practise Falun Gong.

information that many, if not all, of the Falun Gong practitioners who were charged with this crime have been severely tortured in China," Dr. Zhang told the crowd and media gathered in front of the Chinese consulate. "I fear that this would also happen to Charles, even though he is an American citizen."
