Jilin Man Dies of Torture-Induced Health Problems

Mr. Zhu Haishan, 73, was never able to recover from his torture-induced health problems. He was arrested in July 2010 and sentenced to three and a half years. Guards at Shiling Prison slapped Mr. Zhu in the face, forced him to sit still on a small bench, and shocked his groin area with electric batons. The unrelenting abuse soon led to various health problems for him. He died on April 18th, 2016, two years and four months after his release from imprisonment for refusing to renounce Falun Gong. -
Imprisoned Man Dies in Police Custody, Family Forced to Waive Right to Seek Justice for Him
2016-05-19A 52-year-old man died mysteriously on the eve of the 2016 Chinese New Year, about one month after he was sentenced to seven years for refusing to renounce his faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. Mr. Zhao Yongsheng was arrested in early 2015 and tried in mid-December without his family's knowledge. He was still being held at Jingchuan County Detention Centre when he passed away on February 7th. -
Shaanxi Woman Dies Shortly After Being Granted Medical Parole
2016-05-19A prison in Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province refused to grant medical parole to Ms. Xiong Jiyu until she was in critical condition. She died on April 16th while being transported back to her hometown in Chenggu County. The 53-year-old woman was serving a prison sentence for refusing to renounce her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. She was already unable to talk by the time her family was allowed to see her for the first time at Xi'an City Women's Prison. -
Two Brothers Die in Police Custody Three Years Apart
2016-05-04Mr. Yang Zhonggeng was beaten to death in police custody on June 28th, 2013, just four days after his arrest for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. His body was covered with bruises. He was 38. Three years later – his younger brother Mr. Yang Zhongsheng died in custody within 10 days of his arrest for his faith in Falun Gong. -
A Teenager's Nightmare: Mother Still Detained, Father Dies in Police Custody
2016-05-04A 16-year-old girl from Mudanjiang City was still longing for her parents' release when she learned that her father had died in police custody, just ten days after his arrest. Mr. Gao Yixi and his wife Ms. Sun Fengxia were seized from their home on April 19th for refusing to renounce their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. Mr. Gao went on a hunger strike to protest the arrest, but was met with brutal torture. He died on April 29th, at the age of 45. -
Head of Guangdong Medical School Indicted, Suspected of Involvement in Illicit Organ Trade

Award-winning Rice Specialist Dies of Persecution, Family Holds Jiang Zemin Responsible
2016-03-21An award-winning rice specialist from Heilongjiang Province died in 2015, after years of imprisonment and police harassment that wreaked havoc on his health. Prior to his passing, Mr. Yu Liangbin had remained bedridden for six years following his release from a three-year imprisonment for refusing to give up his faith in Falun Gong. He was brutally tortured in prison and his health quickly deteriorated. After his release, the local authorities continued to harass Mr. Yu at home. They also terminated his job and stripped him of his pension. -
Hebei Man, 44, Dies of Abuse-Induced Health Problems
2016-03-21A 44-year-old man from Xiong County, Hebei Province died on March 5th, 2016, after succumbing to health problems he developed as a result of abuse he suffered in prison. Mr. Li Aige was arrested in August 2002 for telling people about Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. He was later sentenced to 15 years and sent to Baoding Prison, where the guards subjected him to various forms of abuse on a regular basis. -
Heilongjiang Woman Dies from Complications of Torture Four Days before Chinese New Year
2016-03-11A 48-year-old woman from Suileng County succumbed to complications of torture, four days before the 2016 Chinese New Year. Ms. Lu Mei's premature death comes eight months after her last arrest for refusing to give up her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. -
Liaoning Man, 60, Dies Months After Suing Former Chinese Dictator
2016-03-11A Jinzhou City resident died two and a half months after he was arrested for filing a lawsuit against Jiang Zemin and holding the former Chinese dictator responsible for launching the persecution of Falun Gong. Sixty-year-old Mr. Wang Yuquan was seized from his home on November 11th, 2015 and released on medical parole five days later when he suddenly lost consciousness. The police refused to tell his family what happened in detention that led to his fainting episode. Starting on January 28th of this year, he began to vomit blood frequently and drifted in and out of a coma. He passed away on January 30th. -
Torture Used by the Chinese Communist Regime: Scalding with Boiling Water
2016-03-11Pouring boiling water on followers of Falun Gong is one of the favourite tactics used by the Chinese Communist Party in attempts to coerce practitioners of the peaceful spiritual practice into renouncing their beliefs. Police arrested Mr. Gai Chunlin in April 2005. In less than three weeks, his family was informed that he had died of a heart attack suffered at a brainwashing centre. His family observed severe burn marks on his face and chest. The autopsy showed that tissue in part of his digestive tract was “cooked” and would peel off at the touch of a finger, indicating that he had died as a result of being force-fed boiling water. -
Jilin City: 7 Dead, 19 Sentenced, and 14 in Judicial Proceedings in 2015 for Their Belief in Falun Gong
2016-03-11In 2015, seven Falun Gong practitioners in Jilin City, Jilin Province died after years of persecution took a toll on their physical and mental health. In addition, 19 practitioners were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 2 to 8 years for refusing to renounce their faith in Falun Gong. Ms. Sun Qiufeng was arrested in 2003 for distributing information in her neighbourhood about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was held in a forced labour camp for one year and severely tortured. She was beaten and lost all of her teeth. Her health never recovered after she returned home. She died on November 9th, 2015, at age 71. -
Shaanxi Woman Dies after Five Months in Coma
2016-03-11A 76-year-old woman from Liquan County, Shaanxi Province recently passed away after being in a coma for five months. Ms. Chen Shuxian was arrested on April 24th, 2011 for refusing to give up her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. She suffered a fractured spine as a result of beatings during police interrogation and lost consciousness several times. By the time she was released, she was paralysed and unable to care for herself. She fought for her life over the course of the next few years, only to slip into a coma last September, and died on February 1st of this year. -
I Regained My Health After Practising Falun Gong, But Was Sent to Prison and Tortured for It
2016-02-21“A serious disease pushed me to the edge of despair when I was 19. I had a strong desire to survive, and this drove me to practice Falun Gong. I soon regained my health and a rekindled hope in life,” said Mr. Zhang Guoliang when he began to practise Falun Gong. When the persecution of Falun Gong started in July 1999, Mr. Zhang was arrested and sentenced to three and a half years in prison, where he suffered horrific torture. His chest was seriously damaged, and he developed hydrocephalus. -
62-Year-Old Jiangxi Woman Wanted for Ten Years Recaptured and Sentenced for Her Faith
2016-02-20Ms. Gong Yuxiu, 62, was sentenced to prison again after ten years on the run to avoid serving a 2005 sentence for refusing to renounce her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. She went on a hunger strike to protest the detention but was brutally force-fed. The guards knocked out two of her teeth as they tried to pry her mouth open. Ms. Gong managed to escape while being treated in a local hospital. She was recently captured, given 7.5 years and has been transferred to Jiangxi Province Women's Prison.
