Elderly and Disabled Practitioners Are Persecuted in Maoming City, Guangdong Province

77-year-old Mr. Chen Binggan has suffered from persecution. He recounts: "Since the persecution began in 1999, I have been arrested more than 20 times, held for a total of over 1,500 days. My residence has been searched and ransacked over a dozen times. The first time, the town government officials asked me if I practised Falun Gong. After I replied positively, they arrested me. Later, I was arrested numerous times, even when I was sleeping in my bed. Since I knew that I had not done anything wrong by following Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, I refused to submit to the vicious pressure from the government; I refused to write any statement to denounce Falun Gong. I have been tortured many times. The tortures that I suffered include being hung up and brutally beaten." -
Ms. Wei Congnai from Zezhou County Imprisoned at Shanxi Province Women's Prison
2010-02-17Ms. Wei Chonnai, 59, was arrested on July 25th, 2009, for distributing Falun Gong fliers in Lailing Village. Ms. Wei was first detained at the Jincheng City Detention Centre and then transferred to the Zezhou County Detention Centre a month later. On October 2009, the Zezhou Court secretly tried Ms. Wei. The court secretly sentenced Ms. Wei to three years in prison on November 3rd, 2009. When Ms. Wei's family finally got the news, the deadline for requesting an appeal had already passed. On January 6, 2010, the family went to the Zezhou County Detention Centre to visit Ms. Wei, but she had already been transferred to the Maoerling Prison. -
Free Mr. Li Tianjing, an Innocent Man
2010-02-17Two lawyers defended Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Tianjing during a court trial on the morning of January 15th, 2010. The lawyers from Beijing and Henan demanded the immediate release of Li because belief in Falun Gong is not a crime. On July 18th, 2009, Mr. Li Tianjing was arrested in Hefei City by Liuan City police. To protest the detention, he went on a hunger strike. After an extended time, he became very weak. The police chained his hands and feet while he was held in a small room at the Shou County Chinese Medicine Hospital, and they tortured him by force-feeding him and injecting drugs into him. As a result, Mr. Li could not walk for days. On September 30th, 2009 he was transferred to Shou County Detention Centre. -
Paralytic Fully Recovered After Cultivating Falun Gong Repeatedly Persecuted for Speaking the Truth
2010-02-16Practitioner Mr. Zhang Chengyou was arrested by police on March 11th, 2002, for obtaining Falun Gong recent articles. They tied him to a tiger bench for 16 hours. At another time rope was used to pull him up and hang him from an iron pipe above the tiger bench. They placed an iron plate in front of his chest so that the he could not move, and it caused extreme pain to his arms and wrists. Mr. Zhang's face was streaming with sweat. After a long period of time, officer Meng Qinglong opened his handcuffs. He no longer could move his arms, and his hands were numb for more than a month. Nonetheless they handcuffed his hands behind his back while taking him to the City Police Bureau. -
Ms. Zhang Chengmei Dies in Wancun Forced Labour Camp in Shandong Province
2010-02-16On December 8th, 2009, police broke into Ms. Zhang Chengmei's home and arrested her. They confiscated Falun Gong books and materials and stole the key to her home. In the afternoon, they ransacked her home again, this time confiscating money found in her drawer. Ms. Zhang was detained at the County Detention Centre, sentenced to forced labour before New Year's Day, and taken to the Wangcun Forced Labour Camp. She died around February 3rd, 2010. -
Chaoyang City Beita District Police Arrest Ms. Tang Lijin and Ransack Her Home
2010-02-16Ms. Tang Lijin's son contacted police officer Mu Yang on January 28th, 2010. His employer required him to have an official seal on certain documents. Mu Yang didn't process his request, but instead took Ms. Tang's son to Ms. Tang's home and ransacked it. Mu Yang broke into Ms. Tang's home without a warrant, or giving any reason. They shouted, "Search, and find the equipment!" Mu and Gao threw things everywhere, making the room a big mess. Mu found several copies of Falun Gong books, thinking he would get an opportunity to be rewarded and promoted, and reported his findings to his superior. The Beita Police Department dispatched two more officers and took Ms. Tang to the police department's basement, where victims are tortured to extract confessions. -
An Odd Thing Happened in Wafangdian
2010-02-16Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yu Xichun was reported by district security when he was posting information with the facts about Falun Gong in Fangyuanxincun on December 21st, 2009. He was taken away by police. Four officers ransacked his home on December 22nd. The police confiscated Mr. Yu's Falun Gong books and materials. He is currently detained in the Wafangdian Detention Centre. Yu Xichun changed dramatically in 2006 when everyone, including his family, believed he was hopeless. He was detained at the Dalian City Forced Labour Camp for stealing in 2006. The noble actions of Falun Gong practitioners detained in the labour camp touched Yu Xichun's heart. So he began cultivating Falun Gong at the Dalian City Forced Labour Camp. -
Mr. Xian Chunwei from Qingzhou City, Shandong Province, Sent to Forced Labour Camp
2010-02-15On June 5th, 2009, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Xian Chunwei, a Falun Gong practitioner was beaten and detained by police officers and later taken to the Qingzhou Brainwashing Centre. They also confiscated all the money he had with him. At the brainwashing centre Mr. Xian was forced to sit on an iron chair. They tied his hands together behind the chair and put a chain around his feet so he was unable to move. He was kept like this for 35 days, during which time police officers watched over him to prevent him from sleeping. If he closed his eyes, they would beat him. -
Falun Gong Practitioners Discouraged from Working at the Chinese Academy of Sciences
2010-02-15Mr. Yu was in graduate school at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and in August 2005, he started his work at the South China Botanical Garden, where he worked hard and was an honest person. His advisor told him on many occasions that he was welcome to stay and work in the group after he graduated. Mr. Yu was arrested in 2008, after which he had much trouble continuing his work at the garden. A police officer told him, "Don't even think about government jobs because you are a Falun Gong practitioner." Mr. Yu decided to talk to officials at every level who had exerted pressure on his advisor. His appeals made these officials persecute him further, and they ordered his advisor to make certain Mr. Yu graduated by January 30th, 2010, and that he leave Guangzhou soon after. -
Ms. Song Chunyuan Detained Again
2010-02-15After the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20th, 1999, Ms. Song Chunyuan, 52, was arrested four times and sent to a labour camp once. In July 2000, she went to Beijing to tell people about Falun Gong. Police officers took her to the police station. During that period of time, Ms. Song was threatened, beaten, deprived of water, exposed under the burning sun for a long time, forced to squat, deprived of sleep, not allowed to sit, and tied to a tree for a whole night. The next morning, police officers tied her to a tree next to the gate for two hours, followed by taking her to the police station. On January 21st, 2010, when Ms. Song was distributing Falun Gong materials, police arrested her and took her to the Tahe Police Station. -
Ms. Fang Xiuzhen is Sentenced to Ten Years in Jail
2010-02-15On January 21st, 2010, Lixia District Court in Jinan City tried Ms. Fang Xiuzhen, a Falun Gong practitioner. An attorney from Jinan pleaded not guilty on her behalf. Word by word and sentence by sentence he refuted the statute she had supposedly violated: "utilising evil religious organisations to undermine the implementation of the law." Then the attorney asked the judge, "Why do so many countries abroad allow people to practise Falun Gong?" Ms. Fang Xiuzhen refused to answer the judge's question. At last, Ms. Fang re-stated that she was innocence and would firmly maintain her belief. However, on January 29th, the court notified her family that they had sentenced her to 10 years of imprisonment. -
Two Falun Gong Practitioners from Beijing and Jilin Passed Away After Persecution in Labour Camps
2010-02-14In January 2001, Mr. Jin Guangzhu went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was arrested and sent to Yanji Forced Labour Camp, where he was inhumanly and brutally tortured. He was beaten up. Once he was locked in a frozen storage room for one week only because he did not obey the rules of the forced labour camp and picked up his 5-year-old daughter who had come to visit him. The forced labour camp did not give him any bedding. He was shivering from cold all the time. Each day they only gave him two small steamed buns (one in the morning and one in the evening). It was far beyond what his body could endure. When he was released, his face was pale and he had no energy. After he returned home, he had cancer and went to the hospital but the treatment was ineffective. He passed away in May 2008. -
Wrongly Sentenced to 13 Years of Imprisonment, Ms. Fu Yan Tortured at the Liaoning Women's Prison
2010-02-14Ms. Fu Yan, 38 years old, was sentenced to 8 years for practising Falun Gong. In the detention centre she was tortured even though she had symptoms of heart disease and high blood pressure. As her appeal to court was rejected, she escaped from imprisonment while in the hospital. Two months later she was once again arrested. She was sent to Liaoning Province Women's Prison. Dashiqiao City court later added five and a half years of imprisonment to her sentence. In total, Ms. Fu Yan was sentenced to thirteen and a half years to her prison term. In December 2009, Ms. Fu Yan did not co-operate with the prison and refused to do forced labour. As a result she was locked up in a small solitary cell and tortured. -
Ms. Lin Shaona Secretly Sent to Baiyun Women's Prison in Guangzhou City
2010-02-14Ms. Lin Shaona was sentenced during secret proceedings of the Rongcheng District Court of Jieyang City, Guangdong, without her family being notified. Ms. Lin repudiated the charges against her, but she was sentenced to a three-year prison term. Even the judges thought that she was innocent. She was recently transferred to Baiyun Women's Prison in Guangzhou City, again without notifying her family. -
Falun Gong Practitioner Zhou Lan Persecuted at Shanxi Province Women's Prison
2010-02-14Shanxi Province Women's Prison is located in Maoerling, in the Yuchi District of Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province. This prison is an evil place which cruelly maltreats Falun Gong practitioners. Female practitioners sentenced to imprisonment in Shanxi Province are incarcerated there, including those who were arrested during the Communist Party Conference period in 2002. Ms. Zhou Lan suffered from inhumane abuse there. Because she shouted, "Falun Gong is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good," the guards did not allow her to sleep. At night, they put her in the toilet and poured cold water on her face and body in order to prevent her from falling asleep.
