Brutal "Reform" Efforts at the Tumuji Forced Labour Camp

In order to force detained Falun Gong practitioners to renounce their beliefs, officials of the Tumuji Forced Labour Camp in Inner Mongolia set up an "Education and Reform Centre" and began their efforts at "reform" [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] on October 26th, 2009. They subjected practitioners Ms. Chen Wenbei and Ms. Xu Xiufen to sleep deprivation and forced them to stand for about ten days, until they fainted and fell down. The guards employ all torture methods possible in attempts to coerce practitioners to give up their beliefs. These two practitioners suffered from abdominal pain and were unable to walk. -
Jiang Zengchao Imprisoned and Tortured for Nearly Nine Years
2010-03-04On November 8th, 1999, 38-year-old Jiang Zengchao was arrested by several policemen. He was sent to the Anda Detention Centre for five months. In April of 2000, Mr. Jiang was sentenced to one-and-a-half years of forced labour and was sent to the Suihua Forced Labour Camp. After he was released, Jiang Zengchao left his home to avoid further persecution. He worked in Panjin City, Liaoning Province. However, someone who did not know the truth of Falun Gong reported his whereabouts to the authorities. Consequently Mr. Jiang was arrested by the Panjin Public Security Bureau. After nine months of detention, he was sentenced to 10 years of forced labour without any legal procedures or documents and was imprisoned in the Shenyang City Dabei District Second Prison. -
Two Practitioners Sentenced in Puyang City, Henan Province
2010-03-04Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Jiang Zhaofang and Ms. Ju Lili were arrested on May 17th, 2009, while posting flyers exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. Police officers took them to the Puyang Detention Centre. Hualong Court in Puyang City officials sentenced Ms. Ju to four years in prison and Ms. Jiang to three years in a covert trial on July 16th, 2009. The pair was sent to the Xinxiang Women's Prison on January 16th, 2010. Both have suffered abuse and mistreatment in mental hospitals and forced labour camps ever since the onset of the persecution in 1999. -
Epoch Times: Shen Yun Artist Exposes Decade-Long Persecution against Her Family
2010-03-03On the night of Feb. 13th, the elegant Chinese lady playing the two-stringed Chinese instrument on the stage of the Bezemes Family Theatre in St. Louis was Mei Xuan, erhu soloist of the New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts. How could anyone guess that she endured 4 years of hard labour in a dark Chinese prison and even suffered unimaginable tortures. When asked about her life in the prison, Mei Xuan replied: "Prisoners made clothing for export. They had to get up at 4 a.m. every morning and work 13 to 14, often even 17, hours a day...There were about 200 prisoners, she said, and every day some of them died--some from exhaustion, some from illnesses that were not treated, some from work-related accidents, some from beatings by police, some simply went crazy, and some committed suicide." -
Professor Yue Zhongsheng from the Civil Aviation University of China Subjected to Forced Labour Again
2010-03-03Due to practising Falun Gong, Mr. Yue Zhongsheng, an associate professor at the Civil Aviation University of China, was arrested by officials from Haidian District, Beijing, in February 2009 and was subjected to forced labour again. Right now, he is being detained at the No. 1 Forced Labour Camp in Hebei Province. Mr. Yue Zhongsheng has been tortured repeatedly while in police custody. In early 2006, Mr. Yue was arrested and sent to the Shuangkou Forced Labour Camp in Tianjin for being suspected of having copies of materials exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. Eight of his ribs were broken during a brutal beating there, and he was fired from his job. -
Free Mr. Li Tianjing, an Innocent Man
2010-03-03Two lawyers defended Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Tianjing during a court trial on the morning of January 15th, 2010. The hearing was held in the auditorium of Shouxihu Farm in Shou County. The lawyers from Beijing and Henan demanded the immediate release of Li because belief in Falun Gong is not a crime. During the court debate, the lawyers refuted the prosecutor's points as "non-factual, unsubstantiated, inappropriate use of the law," and they suggested that the charges be dismissed. -
Yao Ruirong from Rongcheng City, Shandong Province Subjected to Forced Labour
2010-03-03Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yao Ruirong went to Haixianwang to attend a meeting in Rongcheng City on December 23rd, 2009. A security person reported her to the police as she distributed information about Falun Gong. Officers from the Lijiang Police Station arrested her on her way home. They took her cash and the Falun Gong materials in her handbag. Ms. Yao was subjected to forced labour and is now being held at the Wangcun Women's Forced Labour Camp in Zibo. -
Older Practitioner Ms. Zhao Xiuyun Describes the Brutal Torture She and Other Practitioners Endured While Imprisoned
2010-03-02Ms. Zhao Xiuyun describes the brutal force-feeding she experienced at the Daxing County Prison: "The deputy prison head said, "Use a thick tube!" The guards pinned me on a bed, held my head, my arms, and my legs and began force-feeding me. They connected one end of the tube, which is as thick as one's thumb to a machine that is used to pump someone's stomach and inserted the other end into my nose. The tube was too thick and abrasive and instantly scraped the flesh off on the inside of my nose, mouth and throat. It took them a long time to get it into my stomach. They mixed cornmeal and salt with boiling water into a porridge, and hurriedly poured it down the tube, with chunks of undissolved salt. I struggled and held my breath to prevent the food from entering my throat, and the tube fell off the machine twice. The pain was excruciating and I screamed." -
An Insider Exposes Atrocities at the Qianjin Forced Labour Camp
2010-03-02I was held at the Qianjin Forced Labour Camp in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province for one year. The detainees were mostly prisoners of conscience, including Falun Gong practitioners and petitioners. True criminals were few. Bad people were assigned to discipline good people. One could not live at ease if one did not tell lies or did not do bad deeds there. Falun Gong practitioners suffered the most because they were too upright, opposite of the behaviour of the guards. -
Ms. Wu Xiaohong Tortured until She Loses Consciousness
2010-03-02On January 26th, 2010, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wu Xiaohong was arrested at her store inside the Huibo Shopping Mall. Later that day, police officers went to Ms. Wu's apartment, hired a locksmith to unlock the door and then ransacked the apartment, taking away a number of personal items. Police officers interrogated Ms. Wu overnight at the Wenhualu Police Station. In order to make her talk, police officers tortured her until she bled severely. Ms. Wu lost consciousness, after which the police took her to the emergency room of the local hospital. When Ms. Wu regained consciousness, police officers brought her back to the police station where they resumed torturing her. On the morning of January 27th, she was again unconscious and bleeding heavily. -
Ms. Wu Xiaohong Held in Qiqihar City Detention Centre
2010-03-02Ms. Wu Xiaohong, a Falun Gong practitioner from Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province, is still being held in the First Detention Centre. She was arrested on January 26th, 2010, and has been tortured. As a result, she is very weak. However, the police have refused to take her for medical treatment. Ms Wu has endured abusive insults and vicious beatings by those in charge at the detention centre. -
Mr. Li Zhongwei Tortured in Fangqiang Forced Labour Camp in Jiangsu Province
2010-03-01Mr. Li Zhongwei and I were both held in Fangqiang Forced Labour Camp. Mr Li was taken there during the second half of 2006, and for a year and a half, he was tortured physically and mentally. The drug offenders' team leader, Jiang Guozhang, was very ruthless his treatment of Falun Gong practitioners. In his own words, "The guards do not need to encourage me to 'work.' I can think of all kinds of torture methods, and then I order team members to use them on the practitioners. I am relaxed and pleasant, so long as nobody is killed." He has persecuted many practitioners, including Liu Nai who was on the edge of death. As a result of this torture, Jiang Guozhang's prison term was reduced by eight months. -
Ms. Wang Junhua Sentenced to Six Years in Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province
2010-03-01On June 29th, 2009, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Junhua was distributing Falun Gong DVDs in Jiubao Village. Xue Tingbao, the head of security in Jiubao Village, came up to her and brutally beat her. Then, Rong Bin, deputy head of the Domestic Security Division in Wanquan County, and others arrested Ms. Wang. They took her key from her and ransacked her home. They took a CD burner, some letters exposing the persecution of Falun Gong, and other items. The next day, she was sent to Zhangjiakou City Detention Centre. -
Joint Persecution by the Labour Reeducation Bureau and the Women's Forced Labour Camp in Chongqing City
2010-03-01On December 17th, 2009, the Labour Re-education Bureau and the Women's Forced Labour Camp in Chongqing City conducted a so-called "ice-breaking operation" to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. The goal was to "transform" [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] Falun Gong practitioners by forcibly brainwashing them and by using sleep deprivation (going to bed at 2:30 a.m. and getting up at 6:00 a.m.), forbidding use of the toilet, forcing them to stand overnight, and forcing them to squat. They were also tortured and beaten, resulting in serious injury. The operation was scheduled to end on February 8th, 2010. -
The Recent Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in Liaoning Province Women's Prison
2010-03-01Liaoning Province Women's Prison is located in Shenyang City. Falun Gong practitioners have been detained and persecuted there for a long time. The persecution is especially bad in Division 10. Practitioners there are pressured to "transform" [forcibly renounce Falun Gong]. In Division 10, detainees are often forced to work overtime at night, and they often have to work on Sundays. In late 2009, detainees often worked until past midnight or all night long, in addition to all day. Li Jing, a supervisor, had inmates beat and verbally abuse practitioner Ms. Qi Ximin and try to force her to write statements criticizing herself.
