  • Mr. Wan Guohua and Ms. Li Fengxiu of Nancheng County, Jiangxi Province Sentenced

    On April 8th, 2010, practitioners Ms. Li Fengxiu and Mr. Wan Guohua were sentenced by the Linchuan Court to five years and three years in prison respectively for distributing Falun Gong fliers. While they were detained at the Shangdundu Detention Centre in Linchuan City, police denied their family visitation rights. The mother of Mr. Wan went to the detention centre, when it just so happened that her son and Ms. Li were about to be taken to prison. Guards then gave her a choice of paying either 50 yuan for a 10-minute visit or 100 yuan for a half hour visit.
  • The Persecution and Trial of Ms. Liu Zhi

    Ms. Liu Zhi, a 49-year-old Falun Gong practitioner from Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, was arrested in October 2009, and was sentenced to prison for four years in May 2010. On the day of the trial, the court did not allow any of her family members to go inside, making up all kinds of excuses why they could not attend. After the trial the court did not announce the verdict in the courtroom or to Ms. Liu. Her family members were shocked. They decided to appeal her case; however, the time allowed for an appeal was only 10 days. They asked for a copy of the defence's case many times, but never did see any of the papers or hear what was said in court.
  • Ms. Wu Wenjin Abused in the Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Centre

    Agents from the Yichun City and the Youhao District 610 Office [an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong] sent Ms. Wu Wenjinto forced labour for a year and a half in the days leading up to the 2010 Chinese New Year. She was sent to the Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Centre, where she was subjected to severe abuse for refusing to give up her belief. When Ms. Wu's family visited her on April 21st, they found the formerly healthy and optimistic Ms. Wu emaciated. She had lost a tooth and her hair had prematurely turned grey.
  • Wife Arrested, Husband Dies after Living in Fear

    In 2008, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) feverishly arrested Falun Gong practitioners across the country before and during the Olympic Games. At noon on July 17th, 2008, police arrested several practitioners including Ms. Liu and took them to the police station. The practitioners were harshly treated in the detention centre for 15 days and endured inhuman torture. Police then took them to a brainwashing centre, holding them there for more than seven weeks. Ms. Liu's husband, who was timid and did not practise Falun Gong, was pressured psychologically. While his wife was imprisoned, he had a breakdown and could not eat or sleep. When she was released and went out on business he was afraid she had been arrested. He died of a heart attack on April 16th, 2010.
  • Ms. Liang Bo, Teacher at Central University for Minorities, Arrested Again

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liang Bo is a teacher at Wenchuan College, Central University for Minorities. She was again arrested and taken to Haidian Detention Centre. On May 20th, 2010, the Haidian Police Bureau summoned Ms. Liang, saying they needed to "discuss her situation." She refused to comply with the summons. Police officers from the Haidian Police Bureau broke into her home and arrested her after ransacking her home. They intend to charge her with a crime she didn't commit and then sentence her.
  • The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners During the First Month of the Shanghai World Expo 2010

    During the visit of US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton to Shanghai on May 22nd and 23rd, 2010, many Falun Gong practitioners in Shanghai were followed and monitored 24 hours a day by police. Just like they capitalised on "security" for the Beijing Olympics to further persecute Falun Gong, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) have used the Shanghai World Expo 2010 to intensify the persecution of Falun Gong. From the time preparations began to the opening of the Expo, their propaganda machine has churned out lies and slander about the practice. According to a May 28th report on the Minghui/Clearwisdom website, at the entrance of the Expo, pamphlets that slandered Falun Gong were being sold for five yuan each.
  • Ms. Chen Guang Appeals Seven Year Prison Sentence

    After being held in detention for nearly a year, Ms. Chen Guang, 48, was sentenced to seven years in prison on April 14th, 2010. She has appealed, and her case has now been transferred from the Huantai County Court to the Zibo City Intermediate Court. The second trial date is yet to be announced. Agents from the Huantai County 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) seized Ms. Chen from her home, and ransacked it, at around 6:00 p.m. on May 12th, 2009. While in detention, Ms. Chen was shocked with electric batons, injected with unknown substances, and denied the use of the toilet.
  • Ms. Li Shunying Tortured in the Xinli Street Police Station in Heilongjiang Province

    Ms. Li Shunying was arrested by officers from the Xinli Street Police Station in Qiqihar City on April 21st, 2010, and severely tortured. Ms. Li recounts her experience in the police station: "They forced me to lie on the ground face down and put a heavy brace on my head. Then they handcuffed my hands and feet, put a two-metre wooden bar though the circle formed by my hands and feet, lifted it up and swung me. My hair was soaked in sweat immediately, and I felt dizzy. Then they put me down on a sofa, lifted my arms to the sides forming a straight line, and handcuffed each one to a rail. The brace was so heavy that I had to hang down my head. My arms hurt terribly."
  • Retired Engineer Monitored by Nine People Employed by Chongqing Authorities

    Recently the Politics and Law Committee started to monitor Ms. Wang Liuzhen 24 hours each day and forbid her from moving freely. Ms. Wang was sentenced to forced labour twice (the most recent being in May 2008). In the labour camp she was cruelly beaten many times. The prison guards mixed unknown drugs into detained practitioners' food. Many practitioners suffered from chest pains, dizziness, and confusion after they ate the contaminated food. Ms. Wang went on hunger strikes to protest the mistreatment, but she was tortured even more cruelly as a result. Ms. Wang lost the vision in one of her eyes completely, and her other eye is nearly blind. She cannot remember many things and often feels congested around her heart.
  • Ms. Luo Juan of Chenzhou City, Hunan Province Sentenced to Six Years in Prison

    The Beihu District Court in Chenzhou City, Hunan Province sentenced Ms. Luo Juan to six years in prison on May 17th, 2010. None of her family members were informed about the trial. She was also deprived of her right of counsel. Ms. Luo had been enduring torture in a detention centre and passed out on one occasion. Guards tied her up on a metal board, and subjected her to forced injections and brutal force-feedings.
  • Ms. Wen Shuhua Tried in Court Following an Eight-year Imprisonment

    Ms. Wen Shuhua from Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province was put on trial around June 13th, 2010 at the Yanhu District Court. No decision was made at the conclusion of that day's trial. Ms. Wen was covertly arrested around March 16th, 2010. Her home was ransacked and turned into a mess. Previously, Ms. Wen was arrested on December 11th, 1999 and detained for more than 20 days. She was then sentenced to eight years in prison in 2000. Less than two years since her release in 2008, she was once again subjected to persecution.
  • Four Falun Gong Practitioners Handed Long Sentences in Maoming City, Guangdong Province

    Maonan Court sentenced four Falun Gong practitioners on May 20th, 2010. Ms. Lu Hongfei was sentenced to 15 years, Mr. Li Jian to 12 years, Ms. Cheng Li to 11 years, and Ms. Zhang Weirong to 6 years. Thirty-one-year-old Mr. Li Jian went to Beijing to appeal in 2001 and was sent to a labour camp for one year. After returning home in 2002, he was soon picked up and taken to Maoming Brainwashing Centre by police, which used the 16th Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Congress as justification for detaining him. Later he was sent to Sanshui Forced Labour Camp, but he still did not give in. After the labour camp term expired, officials sent him back to Maoming Brainwashing Centre. He went on a hunger strike for more than 10 days to protest. Fearing he might die, the guards released him.
  • Lianyungang City 610 Office Agents Persecute Mr. Zhu Chao and His Wife Ms. Dong Yueling

    Mr. Zhu Chao and his wife Ms. Dong Yueling from Puyang, Henan Province are from Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province. Lianyuangang City 610 Office agents (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), arrested the couple on April 12th, 2010. Ms. Dong and her daughter, who was about to take the national college entrance examination, were escorted back to their hometown on April 29th. Mr. Zhu was placed in criminal detention around June 10th.
  • Mr. Sun Yi Tortured for Four Months with "Airplane Style Hanging" in Masanjia Forced Labour Camp

    From December 2009 to March 2010, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Sun Yi was cruelly tortured by being hung up "airplane style" by guards in Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. In "Airplane style hanging," the victim is handcuffed to high poles, and his feet are tied together. His body then hangs in the air like an airplane. The handcuffs cut into the flesh of both wrists. Sometimes, if the police fear that the victim's family will sue the torturers for mistreatment by using the scars on the victim's hands as evidence, they wrap the victim's wrists and ankles with cotton so that there are no scars.
  • Father of Mr. Lei Jingxiong Appeals for His Son's Innocence

    On June 28th, 2009, 30-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Lei Jingxiong was arrested by police from the local National Security Team. In 2010, his family received a notice from Duyun Prison in Guizhou Province, saying that Lei Jingxiong was sentenced to eight years imprisonment at Duyun Prison on January 14th. When his father, Mr. Lei Yuanjun, a 57-year-old peasant, learned that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) had sentenced his kind and honest son to eight years on false theft charges he appealed for his son's innocence. The father said his son was always kind and honest ever since he was young.
