On Thursday the 15th August 2002 sixteen practitioners were convicted of causing an obstruction while protesting outside the Chinese government liaison office in Hong Kong.

Falun Gong is outlawed in mainland China but perfectly legal in Hong Kong a former British colony returned to China in 1997.

The antecedents to and the trial itself caused an international furore. It all began when the sixteen practitioners positioned themselves on the pavement outside the Chinese liaison office to peacefully protest against the ongoing persecution of Falun Gong in mainland China. In response to a complaint from the staff of the Chinese liaison office the Hong Kong police moved in and requested the practitioners to relocate to an area out of sight of the liaison office. Judging this to be an attack on Falun Gong and their legal right to protest freely they refused, the violent arrest was the outcome.

The presiding Magistrate Symon Wong convicted all sixteen defendants and stressed the point that despite accusations that the trial was politically motivated, this was not so and that the case had nothing to do with defendants practising Falun Gong.

I will return to the Hong Kong trial and the verdict there from after I examine two law systems prevailing in this world of ours.

The first is the law in force in every sovereign state which invariably is devised, enacted and enforced by everyday humans. The second is the law of the universe or cosmos which is inherent in all matter and founded upon cardinal principles of Zhen Shan Ren, Truth, Compassion and Forbearance.

The principle human law system is the Anglo-Saxon adversarial system which is practised in almost every English speaking country such as the USA, Canada, India and several former British colonies like Australia, New Zealand and many African states. The European continental law system is non-adversarial and relies on inquisitorial methods to achieve its aims. The People’s Republic of China is a vast territory with a law system indigenous to a totalitarian system of government passed down via a hierarchy of favoured party personnel and cadres, enforced by the police and armed forces. All of these law systems are designed to prevent people overtly engaging in activities which are deemed to be wrong or anti-social or may be used to settle disputes for one another, this is the basic system of control of the population in almost every nation state world wide.

The law of the universe or Cosmic law is what we genuine cultivators of Falun Dafa adhere to in all our thoughts and actions. We judge all matters according to the principles of Truth, Compassion and Forbearance with continual striving for constant improvement in our moral standards. We regard human law as a trap; it can only restrict the obvious but can not change hearts. With each new law the trap tightens more and in the end there is no space left but darkness and despair.

Human law is evolutionary in its development; therefore it is prone to the creation of loopholes. At the same time it can be changed and exploited at the whims of the powerful. Conversely cosmic law is immutable and unchanging. It is the past, present and the future. It rewards good with good and evil with retribution. It is Dafa.

To explain the difference between the two systems let us look at them both in their application. Let us look at a case of Libel and Slander. A prominent individual buys the morning paper and is horrified to read that he is badly libelled. The more he reads the angrier he becomes. Later on he calms down a little and is prompted by his demon nature: "I could make money from this," and straight away telephones his lawyer. In due course his case comes to court and he may obtain substantial tax-free money damages.

On the other hand a practitioner of Falun Dafa would handle a similar situation in the opposite manner. Because he lives by the principles of Truthfulness Compassion and Forbearance, he remains calm and in control. He is totally unmoved no matter how he is libelled. In his heart he will thank that person and will not bear even the slightest grudge and will always be compassionate.

The Irish legal system has come under the microscope in recent times. The term ‘compensation culture’ is now readily attributed to a section of the Irish motoring public. A plethora of false accident claims have forced the insurance companies into increasing the cost of car insurance to a point where it is now the highest in Europe. Personal Injury claims which are exaggerated and sometimes completely false are seen as an easy touch and motivated by greed. This form of action requires collaborators to make it work which in turn engenders a cycle of greed for money dishonestly obtained.

Adherence to Cosmic law takes a totally different path. Teacher Li in his book Zhuan Falun describes a situation when teaching in Taiyuan an elderly couple came to attend his lectures. - When they walked in the middle of the street a car drove by very fast and its rear view mirror caught the lady’s clothes and she was dragged a distance of about twenty metres and brought to the ground. The driver jumped out of the car in a state of panic and immediately blamed the lady. A rear seat passenger advised the driver to take the lady to the hospital. On hearing this the lady practitioner slowly arose from the ground and said “there is nothing wrong. You can leave.” She scrubbed off the dirt on her clothes and left with her husband. When she arrived at the class she told Teacher Li about her experience and he was very pleased. She went on to say “Teacher, I studied Falun Dafa today. If I hadn’t studied Falun Dafa, I would not have treated the accident this way today.” Teacher Li goes on to say “We have said that good or evil comes from a person’s spontaneous thought, and the thought at that moment can bring about different consequences”. Those words in my understanding clearly illustrate what is lacking in Human Law and what is crucial to Cosmic Law.

Human Law contains all the frailties, weaknesses and unpredictabilities of the human race and because of this it can be exploited by those who hold powerful positions in our society. It can and often is changed to facilitate the evil intentions of malign regimes. It can be hastily enacted to justify State terrorism against innocent populations. A case in point is the present situation in China and in 1999 the beggning of the persecution of Falun Gong when Jiang Zemin, the head of the ruling party had a law passed that resulted in the most horrific reign of terror that is unprecedented in China’s history with a litany of murder, rape, the most brutal torture. Brainwashing, reform techniques all perpetrated against innocent citizens of China whose only crime was their faith in Truthfulness, Benevolence, and Forbearance.

This same man has a remarkable ability to flout human law not only in his own state but several Sovereign states throughout the world. Germany, Iceland, Lithuania to mention just a few all succumbed to his bullying tactics, flagrantly contravening their own constitutions and hoodwinked by Jiang Zemin’s black-list so called they abrogated the basic human rights of their own citizens, they should hand their heads in shame.

Taking advantage of the weakness inherent in human law this demagogue has cunningly used China’s world-wide consular system to wage war on Falun Gong abroad. Several instances of harassment against practitioners have been documented. Arbitrary refusal to renew passports is a vicious weapon used to control Chinese nationals who are practitioner in an effort to curtail their travel needs.

Against all these the victims of Jiang Zemin’s treachery because of their adherence to Falun Dafa, the Cosmic Law have endured a particular form of persecution. They have remained peaceful and calm, not one of instance of retaliation can be levelled against a single one of them, a clear manifestation of Cosmic Law.

Returning to the Hong Kong trial the International community stood solidly behind the sixteen protesters. Several important world figures appealed to have the trial stopped. Their pleas fell on deaf ears. This was a bad omen for the trial itself, because, in any civilised society not to respond in some respect to international pleadings must suggest something sinister was afoot, the final event proved this to be the case.

The photographic and video evidence suggests that the charges of obstructing the pavement were wholly false. It was argued quite rightly that it was the police who caused the obstruction. The arrests of the sixteen practitioners were totally illegal and brutal in there operation. Why were there two prosecution Council to deal with a charge that was not even in the statute books? How could they present a prosecution case about a matter they had no experience of? And why did magistrate Symon Wong taunt the defence and render inadmissible vital defence evidence. The answers must surely be outside interference, most likely from Beijing.

The verdict did not surprise the international community. The magistrate’s sop to the world that the cause had nothing to do with the defendants practising Falun Gong does not fool them. There is no doubt whatsoever that this trial was political motivated and that Hong Kong’s human law system was hijacked for that purpose.

How does this trial relate to Dafa, and Cosmic Law? Let us examine the facts. All sixteen are genuine cultivators of Falun Dafa and were outside the Chinese liaison office protesting against the persecution in China. They had no need of prosecution or defence council instead they relied on the protection of Dafa and their hearts were imbued with Zhen Shan Ren Truthfulness, Benevolence Forbearance. Righteous thoughts sustained them in their darkness hour. They endured the pain of the brutal arrest calmly meditating with compassion in their hearts for their captors. Unmoved by the verdict but saddened by the evil behind it. The true verdict according to Cosmic Law might be – Sixteen magnificent Dafa practitioners who exposed the evil of the persecution, clarified the truth of Dafa with wisdom, and spread the principles of Falun Dafa to others with benevolence.

We must always keep uppermost in our minds that we here because of the Fa [This is the Chinese word for law, referring to the universal or cosmic laws as discussed above]. Everything is there because of the Fa. Therefore Cosmic Law remains immutable and for all genuine cultivators is the truest, most sacred and only law. Human Law through time supersedes itself over and over again; Dafa and Cosmic Law never changes. It has and will endure for all Eternity.

Thank you.
