Mr. Shi Yi from the Jingan District in Shanghai went to West Nanjing Road Police Station in Jingan on March 29th, 2012, hoping to talk to the police chief about Falun Gong and to collect some of his personal belongings that had been confiscated from him. However, Mr. Shi was arrested on his way to the station at 2 p.m. by officer Shi. His family was later informed that he had been taken to the Central Hospital of Mental Health in Jiangan.

Mr. Shi once went to the No. 183 community on Nanyang Street in Jingan to distribute computer cards that could break through the Internet blockade in China. He was reported to the authorities by a community security officer with the surname of Peng. His computer cards were then confiscated by personnel from the Lianhua Neighbourhood Committee and officer Shi. They told him that the cards would be handed over to the police chief.

When Mr. Shi was initially detained in the hospital, doctors Zhu Renjie and Chen Fang tried to get him to take medication, but he resisted. They then tried to force feed him the medication by covering his eyes and pinching his nostrils to force him to open his mouth to breathe. But when they gave him the medication, Mr. Shi kept vomiting. They then tied him down on a bed and injected him with unknown drugs.

On April 13th, 16 days after Mr. Shi was injected with the drugs, he was in a terrible state. He had a fever, lost his appetite, could not sleep, was constipated, and had blood in his stool. He was mentally unresponsive and his limbs kept shaking involuntarily.

Mr. Shi's mother, also a practitioner, has previously been arrested and detained for over six years.
