Mr. Liu Shaozai and Ms. Mai Weilian, from Dianbai County, Maoming City, Guangdong Province, were taken to a brainwashing centre in August 2011. They both developed serious illnesses. Their families asked that they be released. The Dianbai County Police Department refused to release them. The two were transferred to the Dianbai County No. 1 Detention Centre.
On the evening of August 6th, 2011, Dianbai County 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) head Xiao Xiong and other officers took Mr. Liu and Ms. Mai to a brainwashing facility at the Hexi Automobile Squadron in Maoming City. Ms. Mai developed a serious stomach ache, couldn't eat, and was vomiting. Mr. Liu had Hepatitis B-like symptoms and had bloody stools.
Their families asked the police department release them immediately. The Dianbai County Police Department refused to comply. In the meantime, they had the Procurator approve the arrests.
On October 1st, Domestic Security Division chief Cen Xun and deputy chief Che Hong transferred Mr. Liu and Ms. Mai to the Dianbai County No. 1 Detention Centre. Che Hong called their families that day and told them to go to the Domestic Security Division to sign the arrest warrants. The families refused, and the police later mailed the arrest warrants to their home addresses.
At around 3:00 p.m. on October 10th, the families went to the police department and talked to the deputy director Lin Zhiwei to request that they be released.
Mr. Liu's parents are in their 80s, and their health has deteriorated from worrying about their son and family. Mr. Liu's daughter is only eight years old.
