Practitioner Ms. Liu Zhi was arrested and taken to the Liaoning Women's Prison by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) police on July 12th, 2011. By the end of September her life was already in danger. Her whole body was convulsing, and she needed a “neck support” to hold her head up. She was carried in and out by prisoners. However, Liu Jie, who is the group leader of the prison guards, claimed that there was nothing wrong with Ms. Liu and refused to release her. Ms. Liu Zhi's family are very worried and they are insisting on her release from the Liaoning Women's Prison.

Ms. Liu was steadfast in her belief of Truth-Compassion-Forbearance and being a good person. She distributed leaflets exposing the persecution and told people the facts about Falun Gong. On July 12th, she was beaten by the police, arrested and taken to Liaoning Women's Prison for persecution. On July 28th, Ms. Liu Zhi's family went to visit her. They found that she was unable to put any weight on one of her legs and was unable to walk any more due to torture. She was carried out by three prisoners.

On August 4th, her family went to the prison to visit her again but they were rejected without reason. Liu Jie, who is the group leader of the prison guards, and female group leader Chen Shuo continued to ask her family members if they were Falun Gong practitioners.

On August 14th, Ms. Liu's family tried to visit her again. The receptionist lied and said:”You already had a family visit this month” and did not allow them to see Ms. Liu. On August 23rd, Ms. Liu's second eldest brother had to go to the Bureau of Prisons in Liaoning province to request a family visit. The Bureau of Prisons issued a “dedicated letter of appeal”. On August 28th, her family finally saw her in prison. At that time, she was carried out by 3 or 4 prisoners. Her whole body convulsed due to the persecution she had endured.

On Sept. 23rd, when her family went to visit her again, Ms. Liu Zhi was still not able to walk. The police carried her to the visiting room and staff stood nearby to video record the whole meeting. Ms. Liu sat between a chair and a wall, with three female prisoners behind her. Both her legs were swollen and convulsing. Her feet were severely swollen; her hands were held in tight fists and could not open. She could not keep her body on the chair and she constantly slipped to the ground. Her head kept swinging dramatically since she was not able to control it. Her mouth was widely open and could not close. She had problems speaking and it was difficult to understand her words. Ms. Liu Zhi used to weigh about 75 kilograms, now she was only 40 – 45 kilograms. Her family asked her: “Were you beaten?” Policewoman Chen Shuo immediately stopped the conversation and did not allow her family to ask any more questions. She also said that if they discussed anything related to Falun Gong they would stop the visit and not allow any future family visits. When the policewoman stopped the questions from the family, the person recording the scene immediately stopped recording and stepped away, only to resume recording when they started to discuss something else.

Group leader Liu Jie gave two “medical records” to Ms. Liu Zhi's family. She claimed that they took Ms. Liu Zhi for a physical checkup. They went to the 739 Hospital in Shenyang city and the Shenyang Medical University. She said: “Liu Zhi is in good health and the physical checkup did not find any problems.” Her family said angrily: “She already looks like this, how could you say that she is healthy?” Policewoman Chen Shuo said vaguely: “I am not aware of any problems.” The family learned that before the physical checkup, Ms. Liu Zhi was injected with an unknown drug. Facing the inquiry from the family, policeman Liu Jie said: “It was a sedative, so that the medical exam could be done more formally.”

On the morning of September 26th, Ms. Liu Zhi's relatives came to the prison again asking them to release her. Policewoman Liu Jie and another two policewomen came out. They ignored the requests of the family; instead, they asked angrily: “Why have so many people come?” They also recorded the names of the family members one by one. The family asked them to release Ms. Liu Zhi immediately. Liu Jie said: “There are many cases like Ms. Liu Zhi. The hospital already checked her. Her physical health is normal. We cannot release her for medical treatment.” The family asked: “Why did you inject her with a sedative? Is it normal that one become disabled after being persecuted? If she is normal, why does she need to wear a neck support?” The policewoman was arrogant. Finally, she said they would take her to the hospital again to check her health.

Ms. Liu Zhi had practised Falun Gong for 16 years. Before she started her Falun Gong cultivation, when her daughter was just 18 months old, Ms. Liu's husband died at work. Taking care of a young child, she could not bear the tragedy. She came down with than ten diseases, including cardiac disease, high blood pressure, asthma, ... etc. At the same time, because of receiving some compensation after the death of her husband, she had bad relationships with her in-laws. They did not see each other for more than ten years. In 1995, after she started to cultivate Falun Gong, she followed the principles of Truth-Compassion-Forbearance to become a better person. She always looked inside when facing conflicts, always considered others first. All her diseases disappeared at about the same time, and the long term conflicts with her in-laws were also resolved.

After the CCP started to persecute Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Liu Zhi was persecuted multiple times for exposing the persecution of Falun Gong to people. On October 22nd, 2009, police from the Xinxing Police Station in Heping district, Shenyang city, broke into Ms. Liu's home and arrested her. In the Shenyang City Detention Station, Ms. Liu resisted the persecution and told them that “Falun Gong is good!”. She was cuffed on a “death bed”1 for more than 40 days. Even when she needed to urinate or excrete, they did not unlock the cuffs. They also forcefully injected unknown drugs into her, causing her to convulse continuously. Later, the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and the legal system in Shenyang blocked two lawyers from defending Ms. Liu Zhi as “not guilty”. The Heping District Court sentenced Ms. Liu Zhi to 4 years in prison. The head judge was Liu Qiang. When Ms. Liu Zhi was taken to Liaoning Women's Prison, she was already dying and she passed out many times. When the prison did a physical checkup on her, the police injected an unknown drug to her, which they called a “sedative”. Eventually the Women's Prison refused to accept her since she did not pass the physical exam. The Shenyang Detention Center and the Heping District Court quickly processed her document for “temporary release for medical treatment” and urged her family to pick her up from the detention center. On July 5th, 2010, Ms. Liu Zhi, who was dying, was taken back home by her family. Her physical health recovered just a little bit, but she was arrested again by the CCP and her life is now in danger.

Because Liaoning Women's Prison blocked the news and covered up the truth, and the CCP group leader Liu Jie and others kept lying, Ms. Liu Zhi's family are very worried about her life. While they are insisting that they need to take her home, they also hope kind-hearted people will help Ms. Liu Zhi to escape this brutal persecution.

Note

1. "Death Bed" torture: A practitioner is tied to a bed with his hands handcuffed above his head to the bed rails, and his legs tied with thin nylon ropes. The rope is then tightly wrapped around the practitioner's body and the bed, from his legs to his chest. The rope is wrapped so tightly that the practitioner has difficulty breathing and eventually loses consciousness.
