On April 8th, 2011, Mr. Zhao Xinghe from Chengdu, Sichuan Province, was writing “Falun Gong is good” on a street light pole when patrol police spotted him. Soon after, three police vehicles showed up and seven or eight officers got out. They brutally beat Mr. Zhao, slapped his face, stripped off his trousers, and took him to Gongping Police Station in the Wenjiang District.

After a while, the police decided to search Mr. Zhao's home. They escorted Mr. Zhao to his home in two police cars. When they arrived, they dragged him out and pushed him down on the ground. One officer stepped on his back and tied his hands behind his back with wire.

Mr. Zhao's neighbours came to stop the police. “Why are you hitting him? He is very naive. Do not hit him.” “I watched him grow up. He does not do bad things.” A policeman said, “He practises Falun Gong.” The neighbours asked, “How come is it not good to practise Falun Gong? They are good people.”

The police stopped beating Mr. Zhao and dragged him onto a police vehicle. After the door was closed, they beat him some more. Then they went to ransack his home. They took his Falun Gong books, Falun Gong materials, etc.

When they went back to the police station, an officer grabbed his hair. Mr. Zhao shouted not to hit him. The officer let him go.

Later, Mr. Zhao heard an official call the village chief. The village chief asked the police to release Mr. Zhao. The official told Mr. Zhao that they would release him as long as he wrote a guarantee statement to give up practising Falun Gong. Mr. Zhao refused to cooperate, so they asked one of his brothers to write it, and forced Mr. Zhao to put a fingerprint on it. Mr. Zhao was then released.
