Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yang Zhiwen, who lives in Qinglong County, Hebei Province, was arrested by police on December 17th, 2010. In the forced labour camp, Mr. Yang's left eye was bruised and his ribs were broken as a result of torture.

Arrested and Home Ransacked by Zhushan Township Police

On December 17th, 2010, Mr. Yang Zhiwen drove a rented car to Longfei School in Qinglong County to fetch his child from school. On his way home, he was seized by police station chief Weng Jiqin from the Zhushan Township Police Station. He was arrested and his car was taken to the police station. They took his house keys from his car and kept the car. After Mr. Yang’s family brought Weng Jiqin a gift worth more than two hundred yuan1, the police allowed them to drive the car home. However, they continued to detain Mr. Yang in a jail cell.

That afternoon around 2 p.m., police chief Weng Jijin, along with two policemen and town officials He Bosheng and Li Xuemin, went to Mr. Yang’s house and ransacked it. When they arrived, the door was locked and no one was home. As He Bosheng was using the stolen house keys to open the door, Mr. Yang’s child, who had just happened to come home, tried to stop them from committing this illegal act. Because they did not have a search warrant or any legal documents, Weng took out his police pass to show the child. Then he pushed open the door and ransacked the house. Then a dozen persons led by a man called Feng Qi (it was said that he is the head of Domestic Security Team of Qinglong County) barged into the house. They behaved like robbers and took away a large number of personal items: two Falun Gong books, a laptop, two printers, a DVD player, a satellite dish receiver, two tape recorders, three paper cutters, two USB drives, a necklace, and other personal belongings.

Tortured in Qinglong County Detention Centre and Qinhuangdao City (Xizhangzhuang) Forced Labour Camp

On December 17th, these people took Mr. Yang to Qinglong County Detention Centre. The guards at the detention centre tortured Mr. Yang in an attempt to force him to give up his belief. Within just a few days, he was tortured so badly that he was very weak. On the night of December 21st, he was sent to Qinhuangdao City (Xizhangzhuang) Forced Labour Camp and subjected to further torture. His left eye was bruised and his ribs were broken. When his family found out that another practitioner, Mr. Fei Yanqing, died from being tortured in that labour camp, they were very worried and demanded to see Mr. Yang. Labour camp personnel refused, which caused his family to become even more concerned about his safety.

On March 25th, his family once again went to the labour camp and asked to see Mr. Yang Zhiwen. They were finally allowed to see him. Mr. Yang was in very poor physical condition.
