Falun Gong Practitioners Persecuted by the Wuhan Railroad Bureau

The Wuhan Railroad Bureau was formed on March 18th, 2005 when the former Wuhan Railroad Sub-bureau of Zhengzhou Railroad Bureau and Xiangfan Railroad Sub-bureau were merged. This state-owned transportation enterprise is overseen by the Ministry of Railways.

The following are cases of persecution of Falun Gong practitioners by staff of various Railroad offices.

Ms. Yu Furong, an employee of Wuchang Station, was taken to the Zhujiawan Railroad Brickyard Brainwashing Centre for several months after she appealed for Falun Gong in 2000. In 2001, she was arrested by station police and sent to Section No. 6 of Hewan Forced Labour Camp for one year. During that period, police suspended her husband from his job many times and threatened him.

Song Yushan is the former instructor of the Wuchang Criminal Police Section, Wuhan Railroad Public Security Bureau. Since the persecution of Falun Gong began, Song Yushan has been detained, his home has been ransacked, he was removed from his post, and has changed his job. He was taken to Zhujiawan Brickyard Brainwashing Centre and Hankou Shenghuo Section Brainwashing Centre to try and force him to stop practising Falun Gong. He was then sent to the Wuchang construction section.

Fu Baoxuan, an employee of Wunan Station, was deceived by agents of the public security bureau into going to a detention centre in December 2000. He was locked up for six months, and the mistreatment he endured caused great harm to his body and mind. After he was released, he was placed under long-term surveillance at his workplace, and a official there was instructed to intimidate him into giving up practising Falun Gong, threatening him with being fired from his job.

Tang Haian also worked at Wunan Station. After he showed a Falun Gong flyer to an apprentice in July 2000, the apprentice's father, who did not know the facts about Falun Gong, reported Mr. Tang to the authorities and he was detained for six months. In mid-May 2004, agents at his workplace tried to force him to write words against Falun Gong. When he didn't comply, he had to pay 6,000 yuan1 and was to be sent to Miaoshan Brainwashing Centre of the provincial 610 Office. Tang Haian left his home in order to avoid further persecution.

Jiang Changsheng used to be assistant attorney-general of the Wuhan Railroad Sub-bureau Railroad Procuratorate. After the (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) started to persecute Falun Gong, the sub-bureau leaders tried to force him to give up his beliefs, removed him from the judicial and public security system, and withdrew his leadership position.

Jin Xiaojun, former employee of Wuhan Railroad Sub-bureau Cadre Branch, was forced into the Railroad Brainwashing Centre in 2001. His home was ransacked many times, and he was later transferred to another workplace.

Sun Xiuying worked at the Hankou Station. After appealing in Beijing in 2000, she was held at the Zhujiawan Brickyard Brainwashing Centre for several months and suffered enormous harm.

Xiao Liu, an employee of the Wuhan passenger transportation section, was removed from his previous post and is living under surveillance after insisting on following his beliefs. Xiao Liu and his family have suffered both mental and economic persecution.

Chen Yongchun, a driver for the Wuchang vehicles section, was subjected to brainwashing and detention after refusing to give up his belief in Falun Gong.

After he began practising Falun Gong, Tang Zhigang, a train driver of the Wunan mechanical section passenger train team, recovered from hepatitis B, which had caused him many years of suffering. When the persecution of Falun Gong began, Tang Zhigang lost his membership in the Chinese Communist Party, was removed from his job, and was not allocated any fixed job. At about 11:00 p.m. on June 10th, 2004, while he was working the night shift, the CCP Secretary of his workplace and four other people took Tang Zhigang to a dormitory, and tried to force him to write statements to denounce his beliefs. Tang refused to do any of those things. He was later sent to Miaoshan Brainwashing Centre in Hubei Province.

Pan Xiaomin was a former employee of the Revenue Branch in the Wuhan Railroad Sub-bureau. The authorities tried to coerce him into giving up the practice of Falun Gong many times. After the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999, he was detained and his home was ransacked. Pan Xiaomin was transferred from his job in April 2000, and was sent to Miaoshan Brainwashing Centre in Hubei Province by agents from his workplace in 2002.

Sun Chuansheng, a retired worker of Wunan mechanical section, has been harassed many times by the company's retirement management officer. Mr. Sun was pressured in an attempt to try and make him give up his beliefs. His home was ransacked, and he was illegally detained. Sun eventually left home to avoid the unbearable persecution.

Meng Xiuping is a former human resources chief of Wubei engineering section. Followers of Jiang Zemin's regime [while Jiang Zemin was the leader in China] repeatedly tried to force Meng Xiuping to give up his belief in Falun Gong, subjected him to “interrogation and criticism” at large and small assemblies, demoted him to an entry level worker, and intimidated his family into participating in the persecution.

Zhang Yi, a practitioner from Xiangfan Revolution Workshop, Wuhan Railway Transportation Section, was detained for a total of 30 days from September to November of 2002. Zhang was also detained in a brainwashing centre from March to April 2003. He was arrested again on December 13th, 2006 and was held at Xiangfan Railroad Detention Centre, and spent one year in a forced labour camp in 2006. After returning from Shayang Forced Labour Camp in Jingmen, Hubei in December 2007, he returned to work on December 17th. However, he was transferred to a lesser job by the CCP committee.

Ms. Li Chunfeng from Xinyu City, Jiangxi Province worked in the electricity service section in Macheng Train Station, Wuhan Railroad Bureau. She went missing around the time of the 2006 Lunar New Year.

On the morning of September 7th, 2004, Jiangan District 610 officers, a police officer in charge of household registration, and someone from community security forced their way into Li Xiaojian's home, and took him to Jiangan District Brainwashing Centre.

Zhu Min, a former practitioner from Guangshui Train Inspection Centre, Jiangan Vehicles Section, Wuhan Railroad Sub-bureau, was arrested by police on June 18th, 2003, detained at Guangshui City No. 1 Detention Centre, and was then sent to the Railroad Brainwashing Centre.

Zhao Guojiang, employee of the Xiangfan railway transportation section, was sentenced to three years in Shayang Prison in Hubei in 2005. After the term was served, he was sent directly to Wuhan Brainwashing Centre for further persecution.

Cheng Xiaobao is a former employee of the water and electricity section in Xiangfan Railroad Sub-bureau, Hubei Province. On January 12th, 2001, Cheng Xiaobao was held in the Railroad Detention Centre. Cheng was sentenced to four years in prison by the Fancheng District Court in August 2002. Without notifying his family, staff of the sub-station, 610 Office, and police station took Cheng to the notorious Shayang Fanjiatai Prison on August 21st, 2002. Cheng Xiaobao returned home in June 2005, but was again arrested in his home by police officer Li Wenhua, Jiang, and a policewoman from the Zhongyuan Police Station, at 5:00 p.m. on September 24th, 2007. Police officer Li Fuhuai hit Cheng Xiaobao in the face with a leather shoe over 20 times. Several days later, Cheng Xiaobao was sentenced to two years of forced labour, but was not accepted at the camp because of his poor physical condition.

Ms. Chen Xiaoling, 51, an employee from the Yunmeng section of the Xiangfan Railroad Sub-bureau, was arrested in January 2002, and served one year in the Shayang Forced Labour Camp. There she suffered torture such as being handcuffed and hung up, and exposed to the sun for long periods of time.

Xia Wenfang, a retired worker of Wuchang Station, was nearly 70 years old. Since the persecution of Falun Gong began, Chief Liu of the Wuchang Station Retirement Management Office, staff of the Laochezhan Road Residents Committee, and officers from the Daoyi Road Police Station harassed him almost every day, tried to force him to stop practising Falun Gong, and threatened to take him away to the police station twice. Under their coercion, the elderly man was compelled to stop practising in 2000. He eventually became paralysed, and was not properly cared for. Xia Wenfang died on October 17th, 2002.

Other Falun Gong practitioners known to have been persecuted by agents of the Xiangfan Railroad Sub-bureau:

Zhu Zhongtao, arrested and detained twice for a total of two months;
Chang Hongmei, detained once for a month;
Li Sanxi, detained twice, sent to Shayang Forced Labour Camp, for a total of 19 months;
Chen Xiurong, detained twice, held at a brainwashing centre for three months;
Gao Daorui, arrested once in 2004, sent to a forced labour camp for a year, only receives 300 yuan monthly living allowance since March 2004.
