Ms. Jiang Wenling used to have multiple illnesses and her husband had been in a coma from being ill. The couple became completely healthy after practising Falun Gong. After Ms. Jiang told people about the wonders of Falun Gong and exposed the persecution, she was arrested by Shanghai police and sentenced to forced labour.

Originally from Shuangcheng City, Heilongjiang Province, Ms. Jiang is in her early 60's. Her husband had developed an unknown disease, which put him in a coma for three years in a row on three separate occasions, and was only able to stay conscious for a few days in between each stretch. Her husband was unconscious for nine years and nine months in total. Ms. Jiang exhausted all their resources to move from the country to the city to have her husband treated.

Ms. Jiang luckily came to know about Falun Gong. She came to understand the meaning of life and regained confidence. Once her husband awoke from the coma, however, it was found that he had lost the ability to speak, walk, or sit up; he had difficulty expressing emotion; he also had blurred vision, deteriorated organs, and a duodenal ulcer which caused him to have eight operations in eight months.

Ms. Jiang took very good care of her husband and helped him study and practise Falun Gong. When she took him to a Falun Gong study group, her husband thought, "If only I could sit up like the others do." As soon as this thought came, he found himself sitting up. When it was his turn to read the next paragraph of the Falun Gong book, Zhuan Falun, he was able to read several paragraphs despite his blurred vision. Everyone in the group was deeply moved. From then on, he not only attended the Falun Gong study group every night, but also asked his wife to take him to the practice site every morning.

He was able to walk and do housework again. He helped his wife buy and transport vegetables with his three-wheeled vehicle. Moreover, he could do some work and earn money for the family, such as transporting construction materials using his vehicle, and carrying sheet rock and tiles up a staircase that weighed between 100-200 pounds each load.

Ms. Jiang kept telling everyone she met about the wonders of Falun Gong, wishing that everyone would benefit from the practice. Later on, she and her husband moved to Shanghai to live close to their children.

However, amidst the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) persecution of Falun Gong, Ms. Jiang was arrested and sentenced to forced labour for exposing the truth of the persecution and telling people the facts of Falun Gong. Around noon on July 20th, 2001, Ms. Jiang clarified the facts about Falun Gong and the persecution to a taxi driver. As soon as she got out the taxi, the driver called the police and tailed her. As soon as Ms. Jiang passed the Zhang Jiang Police Station, a group of police rushed out and arrested her. They ransacked her home in the afternoon and confiscated her belongings. The authorities sent her to the Qingpu Forced Labour Camp on August 1st, 2001 for a year of forced labour.
