After he and his family had suffered years of persecution, Mr. Wang Ruiqin, a Falun Gong practitioner in Huludao City, Liaoning Province, died on June 8th, 2010, 80 days after his wife, practitioner Ms. Shi Yingchun, died in prison.

Mr. Wang, 62, was the office director at the Lianshan District Agriculture Bureau before the Chinese Communist Party started to persecute Falun Gong practitioners in July 1999. After the persecution began, he was imprisoned in a forced labour camp twice for more than five years. His wife, Ms. Shi, was detained four times, subjected to forced labour twice, and imprisoned once. She was imprisoned for six years and eight months before she was beaten to death in prison. Their son, Mr. Wang Zhuo, also a practitioner, has been detained four times and subjected to forced labour twice. He has been imprisoned for eight years and is currently in Masanjia Forced Labour Camp.

On December 30th, 2000, after they were aware of his plan to appeal for the right to practice Falun Dafa in Beijing, Agriculture Bureau director Yang Baotai and others first tried to talk Mr. Wang out of going, then, at 5:00 p.m., they called the Buohai Police Station. Officers Yang Ronggui and Cai, who was around 19 years old, arrested him and took him to the police station. At 11:00 p.m., he was taken to the Huludao City Detention Centre.

Lianshan District Domestic Security Division director Zhang Junsheng altered his case from "administrative detention" to "criminal detention." He was transferred to the Huludao City Jail on January 8th, 2001. Thirty-seven days later, he was ordered to serve two years of forced labour in the Huludao City Forced Labour Camp.

Because he then appealed to the Huludao City government, ten guards beat him and shocked him, using four electric batons, on the evening of November 30th, 2001.

In 2002, Lianshan District Communist Party secretary Li Huaiyu and others went to the labour camp to assist in the brainwashing. Li said to Mr. Wang, "I will give you a job if you "transform" [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] now." Mr. Wang said, "My hair is white now. I will not 'transform' even if all my hair is gone."

After two years, his family went to the camp to pick him up on January 8th, 2003. But, instead of releasing him to his family, the labour camp called and released him to the Buohai Police Station, citing the fact that he not been "transformed."

After his release, Mr. Wang went back to work at the Agriculture Bureau. But several months later, at around 3:00 p.m.on July 27th, 2003, the bureau deputy director, Gu Zhengfeng, ordered him to report to the Xingcheng Brainwashing Centre. Mr. Want said he had to go home to prepare for the trip and fled.

The Lianshan District government dismissed him from his position in mid-August, citing his absence from duty without a reason for more than 15 days.

At around 10:00 a.m. on April 2nd, 2004, officers from the Beining City Police Department arrested Mr. Wang and three other practitioners in Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province, lying to bystanders that it was a prostitution raid. The officers brutally beat him and threw him into a car because he kept shouting "Falun Gong is good," which shed light on the truth about the persecution to bystanders. The practitioners were taken to the Beining City Detention Centre, then the Beining City Jail in the afternoon. Yao Cheng was in charge of the arrests.

The director of the Beining City Jail was Wang Shixue. Mr. Wang was repeatedly beaten in the jail. He was ordered to serve three years of forced labour and transferred to the Jinzhou City Forced Labour Camp.

The director of the Falun Gong division in the camp was Bai Jinlong, and the deputy directors were Yang Tinglun and Zhang Chunfeng. The political director was Li Songtao, and the commanders were Han Jianjun, Zhang Jiabin, and Mu Jinsheng. Zhang Chunfeng slapped him in the face, then said, "I did not hit you. Was there anyone who saw me hit you?" Mr. Wang immediately asked Zhang Jiabin, who was at the scene, "Why did you not stop him when he hit me?" The latter said, "I cannot give him orders, so I cannot stop him." Mr. Wang was repeatedly tortured during his three years of imprisonment.

On the evening of August 2nd, 2008, officers from the Buohai Police Station arrested his wife, Ms. Shi, when she was distributing Falun Gong fliers.

At around 10:00 p.m., deputy director of the Lianshan District Domestic Security Division Chen Yulong, officer Wang, deputy director of the Buohai Police Station Ma, and other officers searched his home and arrested him.

He and his wife were detained at the Buohai Police Station overnight, then taken to the Suizhong County Jail.

His only answer to interrogators was, "I knew nothing. I was sleeping when you arrested me. I am a law abiding citizen. You should not treat me like this." They wanted to extort 2,000 yuan1 from him as "bail." He said he had no money. They suggested that he borrow it from relatives. He said that his relatives were poor farmers. He was released on August 16th.

His wife was secretly sentenced to seven years in prison without her family being notified. She was taken to the Liaoning Province Women's Prison on October 22nd, 2008. Their son was arrested at home at around 3:00 p.m. on October 21st, 2008. He was first detained at the Shoushan Detention Centre, then in Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Liaoning Province.

On the afternoon of March 18th, 2010, Mr. Wang was called to the prison where his wife was incarcerated and told his wife was dead. He broke down on the bed and burst into tears. Just a month before on a visit to the prison he had seen his wife was sound and solid. He knew there must be a crime behind her death, but the prison administrative threatened him, ordering him to sign papers authorising her immediate cremation. They told the family that, if they did not agree, they would arrest all practitioners in the family. Worrying about other family members, as well as the mental and health condition of Mr. Wang, Ms. Shi's sister gave in and signed the papers.

After the death of his wife, Mr. Wang's health quickly deteriorated. By the beginning of May, he was not able to get out of bed. He vomited whatever he ate and was extremely thin. He died before dawn on June 8th.
