Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yuan Yizhi is from the Ganjingzi District of Dalian City, Liaoning Province. He graduated from the Liaoning Engineering Institute, started a small business and was leading a sound life. His wife, Ms. Liu Hongxia, is also a practitioner. They have a two-year-old boy. Since they started practising Falun Gong, they have taken the pursuit of fame and profit lightly and have been very happy.

On October 21st, 2007, a group of police officers broke into Mr. Yuan Yizhi's home and ransacked it. They took away his personal belongings, which included a desktop computer, a notebook computer, a printer, a scanner, a fax machine and two mobile phones. The couple was then taken away by force, and detained at the Yaojia Detention Centre. The police officers ransacked their home again several times and took away anything that was valuable.

Mr. Yuan's two-year-old son had to be taken care of by his aunt. When he woke up in the middle of the night and realised that it was not his mum lying next to him, he would cry loudly. As soon as he heard the song "Mum is the greatest in the world," he would cry out for his mum even harder. During the detention of his parents the boy had been hospitalised several times due to an illness caused by stress and anxiety.

Mr. Yuan's family members were outraged at seeing such a nice family being broken apart. More than ten of them took turns visiting related organisations, demanding the couple's release. On December 28th, 2007, Ms. Liu Hongxia was released.

Mr. Yuan Yizhi is being held at the Dalian Drug Rehabilitation Forced Labour Camp. Mr. Yuan is well respected by people around him for his integrity. He doesn't talk much but always takes good care of everything that falls into his care. One could ask, how does such a good person get imprisoned by his government simply for believing in Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance?

The nine long years of persecution against Falun Gong has brought endless suffering to numerous harmonious and happy homes like Mr. Yuan Yizhi's. Now one can no longer hear laughter from his home, and his friends cannot offer any hope. Mr. Yuan's parents are suffering from poor health. His mother suffered a stroke and cannot take care of herself. Now his parents spend their days in tears. Mr. Yuan's little son often talks about his father's return, saying, "When daddy comes back, he'll take me to the beach."

In the cold of winter, Mr. Yuan's wife often takes the boy to the Dalian Drug Rehabilitation Forced Labour Camp and stands outside the gate searching for her spouse through the windows. The labour camp authorities have repeatedly denied her visiting rights due to the fact that she is also a Falun Gong practitioner. She told them, "My husband has done nothing wrong by trying to be a good person. Even if all the doors are closed, I will still wait outside until my husband walks out of here openly and nobly."

In China, the persecution of Falun Gong is in its ninth year. There are so many families that have been devastated. It has been difficult to keep statistics on family members who have been killed. Even so, Falun Gong practitioners have remained steadfast in their belief in Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance, and persistent in informing people about the persecution of Falun Gong and dispelling the state propaganda attacking the practice around the world.
