Mr. Wang Jingzhi was 78 years old and lived at Louwan Village, Pingshan County, Hebei Province. He suffered from many kinds of illnesses, which all disappeared after he learned Falun Gong. After the persecution started on July 20th, 1999, Ms. Wang's home was ransacked many times by the authorities, and his Falun Dafa books were stolen. In 2004, Mr. Wang was sent to a brainwashing centre, where he suffered from mental tortures and was fined. The unrelenting harassment and threats were a great shock to his system, and he died on July 10th, 2005.

Ms. Ben Lirong was a 43-year-old practitioner from Fujin City, Heilongjiang Province. She learned Falun Gong in 1997. She went to Beijing to appeal in July 2000 and was detained for one month. After 2000, Ms. Ben was detained three times. Long-term persecution caused her much mental stress. Consequently, Ms. Ben's body and mind suffered greatly, and she died on March 3rd, 2006.

Mr. Lu Bin was 50 years old and lived in Luanzhuang Village, Zhuolu County, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province. In autumn of 2000, he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa. He was beaten brutally by the policemen on Tiananmen Square and was then sent back to the local detention centre to be persecuted. The local police extorted 5,000 yuan1 from his family for his release. His family saw how weak he was because of the severe torture, so they had to borrow 2,000 yuan in order to take him home. When he returned home, Mr. Lu frequently vomited blood and the policemen continually harassed him. Lu Bin died in September 2002.

Ms. Wang Jiuxiang was 61 years old and lived in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province. She suffered from many illnesses, all of which disappeared after she learned Falun Gong in 1998. Ms. Wang went to Beijing to appeal and explain the true situation of Falun Gong in December 1999. She was illegally arrested2 and detained for a month. Later, she was laid off the job by her own department. Ms. Wang persisted in cultivating Falun Dafa and went to Beijing to appeal to the higher authorities in 2000, and was again arrested. One time, when Ms. Wang was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution in a building, she fell down and was sent to a hospital by kind-hearted people. Because her family did not understand her and the harassment was frequent, Ms. Wang suffered intense mental and physical agony. She died on April 9th, 2006.

Ms. Qu Shuyuan was 80 years old and lived in the Dongjiagou, Dalian City Development District. In 1997, she started to cultivate Falun Gong, and all her illnesses were gone. She benefited greatly, both mentally and physically, and knew deeply that Falun Dafa is good. After July 20th, 1999, her son continued to persist in his belief of Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance and subsequently was arrested and persecuted frequently. Ms. Qu Shuyuan's body and mind suffered greatly. On the twelfth day before she died, the authorities went to her son's home to arrest him. Ms. Qu Shuyuan died in November 2004.

Note

1. "Yuan" is the Chinese currency; 500 yuan is equal to the average monthly income of an urban worker in China.

2. Illegally arrested: Contrary to what former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin, who initiated the persecution, and the Chinese Communist Party would like the world to believe, practising Falun Gong is NOT illegal in China. Although the Public Security Department issued an unconstitutional set of restraints on the practice at the onset of the persecution in 1999, no laws have been passed by the only legislative body in China, the People's Congress, banning Falun Gong or granting the police the authority to arrest Falun Gong practitioners for practising the exercises or distributing flyers. For a more complete discussion of the illegality of the persecution of Falun Gong, please refer to the article "The Ban on Falun Gong—A Dictator's Whim, Not the Rule of Law". (Variation: "illegally sentenced")
