Ms. Zhen Fengru, a Falun Gong practitioner in Lanzhou City, was arrested and sent to the Gong Jiawan Brainwashing Centre in Lanzhou City on October 26th, 2004. She suffered tremendously from the inhumane persecution both mentally and physically. She was later isolated from her son and confined to her house when her son was threatened by the authorities. She collapsed mentally and passed away in September 2005.

Ms. Zhen Fengru, approximately 55 years of age, was a former employee of the Second Construction Engineering Company in Gansu Province. She once had a variety of illnesses. After she started to practise Falun Gong, she was purified in her body and mind, and she tried her best to be a good person. She was honest and kind, hardworking and able to endure hardships, and was willing to help others.

After the persecution of Dafa began in 1999, Ms. Zhen twice went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Dafa and was detained several times. She later left her home and became homeless for fear of endangering her family. For several months in 2000 and 2001, Ms. Zhen was forced by her employer and the local police substation to study materials attacking Falun Gong in the security division of her workplace. She was threatened that she would be sent to a dark cell if she did not go. One day in January 2001, because Ms. Zhen refused to check in at the security division, she was taken away from her home by six policemen. She was detained with drug-addict criminals for a day and a night. She was later transferred to a brainwashing centre to be "reformed1." She had a school-age son at home.

In the evening on October 26, 2004, people from the Qilihe Public Security Sub-bureau arrested Mr. Zhen from her rented house and sent her to the Gongjiawan Brainwashing Centre. There she suffered inhumane mental and physical persecution. In only a few months, Ms. Zhen Fengru, who was originally healthy, was tortured until she was debilitated and had dangerously high blood pressure. In spite of this, the authorities did not release her, nor did they allow her only son to visit her. Ms. Zhen was pressured to write the three statements2. Around July 2005, under the vicious persecution and huge spiritual pressure she wrote the "three statements" against her conscience. Afterwards she was released.

The the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP)spiritual tortures are worse than its physical ones. They destroyed Zhen Fengru's dignity as a human being. Her experience living there was worse than death. Because the CCP threatened her son, after she returned home, he sent her to their hometown in Anhui Province and kept her inside. Ms. Zhen Fengru could thereafter not live a normal life. She was exhausted physically and mentally and finally suffered a mental collapse. She passed away in September 2005.
