Ms. Li Yulan, a retired employee of the Forestry Department of Jiangxi Province, was detained in 2000 for distributing Falun Gong truth-clarifying materials. She was tortured to the brink of death and died in early 2001.

Ms. Li was 68 years old and lived in Nanchang City. She became very healthy after practising Falun Gong. In 2000, when she was distributing Falun Gong truth-clarifying materials, she was detained by Yuzhang Police Station, and then abducted to a Detention Centre and was locked up there.

In the detention centre, she suffered inhuman tortures and soon developed illnesses due to the torture. Her health worsened and deteriorated. She requested her release from the police station many times, but her request was refused every time. She was not even allowed to drink a drop of hot water. Her health deteriorated until she lost control of her bowels and urine. The detention centre did not send her to the forced labour camp hospital until the detainees in her cell thought that she was at the brink of death. The rescue effort of the hospital was in vain, so the detention centre sent her back home. At the Chinese New Year in 2001, a practitioner went to see her but found out that she had died many days earlier. The exact date of her death is unknown.
