On June 11, 2003, Dafa practitioner Ms. Sun Linghua from Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province was kidnapped and then imprisoned in Jinzhou City First Detention Centre. To protest the persecution, she frequently went on hunger strikes. In late July, Sun's life was in critical condition and was taken back home by her family members. Being home for only 5 hours, Sun Linghua was again arrested and taken for detention. In early August of 2003, she was put on "trial" in Jinzhou City First Detention Centre Court, and was sentenced to seven and half years in jail.

When sentenced, Sun was in such bad shape that she could not even sit up. She lay on a blanket and was lifted up with the help of others. Her voice was very weak. She was extremely skinny and only weighted about 66 lbs. On August 21, 2003 Sun Linghua was not able to walk, and was too weak to speak. She was taken to Dabei Prison in Shenyang City in an ambulance. According to normal rules, Ms. Sun Linghua's condition dictated that she should not be accepted by the prison since she was diagnosed with heart disease, brain blood insufficiency and so on, but the Director of Liaoning Province Forced Labour Bureau, named Bai, approved Dabei Prison's acceptance of Ms. Sun Linghua.

Sun Linghua is now resisting the persecution by going on a hunger strike in Dabei Prison.
