Case 5-5: Swiss Citizen's Entry into Iceland refused

Description:

At the invitation of an NGO, Peace 2000 Institute, Miss Xie was to leave on 13 June 2002 for Iceland. However when booking her airline ticket, the travel agent received a message from the Icelandic Minstry of Justice which advised him to cancel her ticket. The travel agent advised Mr. Xie to contact the Icelandic Consulate in Geneva.

After contacting its Embassy, the Consulate said that Mr. Xie’s name was on a list concerning Falun Gong. The person at the consulate though was unable to tell her the nature of the list. Later, her travel agent received a phone call from the Consulate that said Mr. Xie’s name was on a list of Falun Gong practitioner and that they wanted to limit the number of practitioners in Iceland during the Chinese presidents visit.
