According to a report in the Geneva Family Information Newspaper, the Falun Gong practitioners living in China are suffering. Not only have some practitioners been tortured and beaten to death, but there are also more than five thousand practitioners being detained in mental hospitals. All of this information is from reliable sources such as Amnesty International, as stated in the newspaper.

On November 27th 2002, the parliament of Geneva proposed a resolution draft titled, “The Human Rights of Falun Gong Practitioners in China are Violated”. In interpreting the motivation of this resolution, those parliament members criticised the inhuman deeds committed in China.

When addressing the dignity of human beings, those parliament members could not keep silent any more. Members of parliament in Geneva, who value human rights very highly, should wisely interfere if, “this inhuman behaviour is unacceptable, we should use all democratic measures available to condemn these deeds.” They also wrote, “No matter what opinions we hold, as the citizens of a democratic country, especially members of parliament in the state of Geneva, we should not exculpate these conducts.”

The parliament members also talked about Christian priests who have been arrested and expelled, Catholic celebrities who have been arrested and some churches that have been destroyed. They demanded the Parliament of the state of Geneva to condemn “the human rights violations in China”, meanwhile demanding the federal Government take measures to forbid the representatives of the Chinese Government from harassing Falun Gong practitioners in the federal territory of Switzerland, according to the criminal law of Switzerland.

Raised by eight parliament members, this resolution will be discussed during the opening session of the Geneva state parliament. It is worth mentioning that in the early 90s the Chinese Government was supportive of Falun Gong, because it is a Qigong movement that improves both the body and mind. At present, Falun Gong practitioners in Switzerland are also harassed constantly by the Chinese regime, and that is why those parliament members in Geneva requested intervention from the federal government in order to terminate the disturbance from the representatives of the Chinese Government towards Falun Gong practitioners in the territory of Switzerland.

It is certain that there are many people who have religious beliefs and have also been deceived by the Chinese government’s campaign to suppress the Falun Gong movement. People tend to neglect many details, including the basic rights of a human being, due to the fear of Falun Gong being something bad. Some French newspapers have also conducted some irresponsible reports about these practitioners under imprisonment, who should actually receive sympathy for the severe and cruel persecution they suffer there. People’s opinions were more or less incorrectly manipulated by these irresponsible reports.

However people should always have hope. If people pay correct attention to important human rights issues, those regimes choosing to persecute human rights will also gradually disappear and through this the Chinese Government will also understand that it is not in accordance with it own interests to continue to do so.
