  • 69-Year-Old Ms. Liu Xiaolian Dies after Being Injected with Toxic Medication and Brutally Beaten in Hubei Province

    In April 2006, Ms. Liu Xiaolian, 69 years old, distributed fliers with information about Falun Gong and was arrested by police informants. Police took her to a psychiatric hospital. Ms. Liu was tortured for over two years with poisonous injections and medication, high-voltage electric baton shocks and insults from male mental patients. She was released in August 2008, only when she was on the brink of death. Ms. Liu died on October 26th, 2008.
  • 75-Year-Old Mr. Liu Tianhou Dies in a Sichuan Province Forced Labour Camp

    Mr. Liu Tianhou, 75, was arrested and detained ten times for his belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. After he was detained, Mr. Liu's wife lost her caregiver and died on February 16th, 2008, broken-hearted. Mr. Liu died on October 27th, 2008, in Wumaping Forced Labour Camp. In 2006 police ransacked Mr. Liu's home. He was arrested and publicly tried. When court officials asked Liu Tianhou why he was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution he said, "I did what I did because I read the truth about the harvesting of organs from living practitioners in Sujiatun Concentration Camp, and it's really inhuman. I spoke out for justice for Falun Gong so that the evildoers would stop persecuting good people." He sentenced to three years of forced labour.
  • Six Years After Losing Her Husband in the Persecution, Ms. Li Shuying Dies as Result of Torture

    In March 2002, Ms. Li Shuying, 37, was arrested by police less than a month after she was still mourning the death of her husband, who died from persecution in labour camps. She was sentenced to two years of forced labour and taken to Heizuizi Labour Camp. Ms. Li went on hunger strike for more than 100 days to protest. She was force-fed during the hunger strike. The guards used thick plastic tubes or forced rice balls into her mouth with their hands. She was also force-fed highly concentrated salt water. After all other methods were exhausted, she was given intravenous injections. Guards punched and kicked her and used electric batons to shock her. She was also tortured with the "Big Hang Up". Even after her release she was in poor health and harassed by police. Ms. Li died on October 14th, 2008.
  • 58-Year-Old Mr. Zhang Mingtong Dies as a Result of Torture in a Forced Labour Camp in Henan Province

    On August 13th, 2007, police broke into 58-year-old Mr. Zhang Mingtong's home, and arrested him while sleeping, without following any legal procedures. He was sentenced to 21 months of forced labour in Henan Province Forced Labour Camp, endured numerous hardships such as brainwashing and sleep deprivation, and was brutally beaten and tortured by drug addicts and guards. He was forced to work overtime, which exceeded his physical ability, and he was starving. Mr. Zhang was tortured to the degree that he developed high blood pressure, his hands and feet were numb, and he could not take care of his personal needs. When his family picked him up in November 2007, he could not speak, was paralysed, and unconscious. At home police often came to harass him. He died on October 2nd, 2008.
  • The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Brought Mr. Ma's New Life to a Premature End

    Mr. Ma Wenhe was cured of oesophageal cancer after he started practising Falun Gong. He told people that Falun Gong cured his disease. After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began persecuting Falun Gong in 1999, local officials tried to force him to write a guarantee statement to stop practising Falun Gong. He refused. Mr. Ma was detained in a detention centre. For over four years Mr. Ma was frequently harassed. He was forced to flee his home many times because of this. His employer and village officials often chased him all over the place. The mental stress as a result of several years of persecution caused his old sickness to recur. He died on October 14th, 2003.
  • In Memory of Fellow Practitioner Ms. Wang Yanhong

    Ms. Wang Yanhong was from Anlu City in Hubei Province. On September 4th, 2008, she was arrested by police and detained in the First Detention Centre in Guangshui. Ms. Wang went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. She was beaten to death in the First Detention Centre for practising Falun Gong. She was 46. Those around her lost a good family member, a guardian who upheld justice and kindness, and an ambassador who spread the blessings of Falun Gong.
  • Falun Gong Practitioners Cruelly Tortured at the Jilin Province Prison

    Mr. Yang Guang, a 56-year-old practitioner, was detained at the Jilin Province Prison for eight years, and subjected to all sorts of inhuman treatment, resulting in his being in critical condition many times. He was incontinent, suffered muscular atrophy, and was skeleton-like. His legs were crippled and his toes were rotten and deformed. Yang Guang has gone on hunger strike several times to protest against the persecution. He was eventually unable to walk and suffered from whole-body oedema and was unable to eat, yet the prison authorities still refused to release him for medical treatment. Around August 8th, 2008, Mr. Yang Guang was dying. The prison administration took him to the Jilin Province Railway Hospital, but forbade his family from seeing him. He died on August 25th, 2008.
  • Chen Zixiu's Family Members Are Still Being Persecuted

    On April 20th, 2000, the Wall Street Journal posted on its front page a lengthy article entitled "Practising Falun Gong Was a Right, Ms. Chen Said, Up to Her Last Day". The article was about Ms. Chen Zixiu, a Falun Gong practitioner from Weifang, Shandong province who was persecuted to death by the local authorities. This report attracted international attention and the journalist, Ian Johnson, received a Pulitzer Prize for it. Over the past nine years, Chen Zixiu's family members have also been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party. Chen Zixiu's daughter, Zhang Xueling, was given three years of forced labour without trial; Chen Zixiu's sister and brother-in-law have been repeatedly abducted and sent to labour camps.
  • Elderly Mr. Pang Zhongchun Dies after Years of Torture

    68-year-old Mr. Pang Zhongchun died on September 30th, 2008 in Wendeng City, Shandong Province. He had been arrested nine times by agents of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), simply because he practised Falun Gong. He spent two years in a forced labour camp. Pang Zhongchun wasn't released until February 2002. However, by this time he had lost his memory due to long, severe torture. He could no longer remember Falun Gong or how to do the exercises. His health condition became worse and worse until a year ago, when he totally lost his speech. It is believed he was severely injured by the drugs administered by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials.
  • Guards at Guangshui City Detention Centre Violently Force-Feed Ms. Wang Yanfeng, Resulting in Her Death

    On September 24th, 2008, Ms. Wang Yanfeng, a practitioner from Anlu City, was dragged into a room by guards at the Guangshui No. 1 Detention Centre. They violently force-fed her a mixture of flour and water, which made her choke. The force-feeding blocked her oesophagus and respiratory pipes, and she passed out immediately. By 9:00 p.m., when her family rushed to the detention centre, Ms. Wang had died and been left in a refrigerator cabinet. Her body was in a struggling position before she passed away.
  • Mr. Ma Zhixin, Tortured to Disability, Died During the Olympic Games

    On July 9th, 2008, the officials in Anqiu City arrested more than twenty Falun Gong practitioners, including Zhang Zhenfang, using the excuse of "maintaining security for the Olympic Games." Mr. Ma Zhixin, Ms. Zhang's husband, who was totally dependent on his wife's nursing care after suffering torture at the hands of the police, suffered an extreme shock and was mentally tormented. His condition quickly deteriorated and he passed away on August 21st, 2008. He was only 49 years old.
  • 60-Year-Old Ms. Zhang Peilan Dies as a Result of Persecution in Masanjia Forced Labour Camp

    On May 24th, 2008, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Political and Judiciary Committee Secretary Zhou Yongkang arrived in Shenyang City and caused more than fifty practitioners to be arrested on the same night. Four to five officers from the Qigong Police Station arrested Ms. Zhang Peilan, 60, from her home. She was sentenced to one year of forced labour. She was held in the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. The camp administration never allowed visitation by Ms. Zhang's family, but at the beginning of August 2008, they suddenly called her family and said that she was dying. The Masanjia Camp was not willing to pay her medical costs, so her family was allowed to take her home on August 13th, 2008. Ms. Zhang died at her home on October 7th, 2008.
  • Practitioners Tortured to Death in Guan County, Shandong Province

    Ms. Xu Jiling had been the director of both the Guan County Women's Federation and the Guan County Environmental Protection Bureau. In October 2000, she went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practise Falun Gong but was detained and later sentenced to three years of forced labour. When her work unit heard of her arrest, they immediately stopped paying her salary. Due to the mental and physical stress she endured in prison, Ms. Xu developed high blood pressure and was released on bail for medical treatment. She was arrested again in March 2004. Later Ms. Xu went into a deep coma, due in part to the barbaric way the police took her into custody. She was later taken to the county hospital and closely monitored until she passed away in June 2004.
  • Mr. Ma Zhixin Dies as Result of Persecution in Shandong Province

    Mr. Ma Zhixin, 48, went to Beijing twice to appeal after the persecution started in 1999. He was detained several times, and authorities extorted 5,000 yuan from him. In June 2001, he was tortured until he had a stroke, and he could not move his limbs. His wife, Ms. Zhang Zhenfang (also a practitioner), was serving a five-year term in prison for upholding her faith. Mr. Ma was cared for by his other family members. Mr. Ma could not recover from so many hardships in his home, his condition worsened, and he became incoherent. He died on August 21st, 2008.
  • After Ms. Gao Rongrong's Death, Her Family Members Continue to Suffer Persecution

    After Ms. Gao Rongrong was tortured to death on June 16th, 2005, Ms. Gao Rongrong's family went to government departments to ask for an investigation into Rongrong's death; however, they did not receive any response. Ms. Gao Rongrong 's father became seriously ill because he could not endure the stress of all that had happened. Police prevented Gao Rongrong's mother from travelling because of the Beijing Olympic Games.
