  • Children Need Care After Mother Died and Father Arrested in Liaoning Province

    On the night of April 23rd, 2008, the Benxi City police conducted a large-scale arrest of more than forty Falun Gong practitioners, including elderly practitioners in their seventies, and young mothers. That was part of their "Safe Olympics" plan. Police stormed into Mr. Xiong Anming's home, beat on the door, and tried to break it open. Mr. Xiong and his wife Zhang Yulan tried to escape arrest by jumping from their third-floor apartment. Ms. Zhang's lower spine was fractured, and she was taken to hospital. The police ransacked their home and arrested Mr. Xiong. Ms. Zhang was released from the hospital before she had fully recovered, due to not being able to pay the medical expenses. She fled home with her two sons. She died in the extreme pain of her injury on November 15th, 2008.
  • Mr. Xia Yuanbo Dies as a Result of Persecution in Heilongjiang Province

    Mr. Xia Yuanbo, 27, was arrested, detained and tortured many times for practising Falun Gong. In November 2001 he was locked up in the notorious Changlinzi Men's Forced Labour Camp. He was cruelly tortured, and became emaciated. He never recovered after his release, and he had no permanent home. He developed symptoms of late stage tuberculosis. He could not breathe, felt congested, and vomited out rotten flesh. Mr. Xia Yuanbo's family took him to be treated at the hospital. His family used up all the 5000 yuan of borrowed money, and had to take him home. Mr. Xia became emaciated, and died in pain on September 21st, 2008.
  • Mr. Yang Jiaye Dies at the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Men's Forced Labour Camp

    Mr. Yang Jiaye had poliomyelitis (commonly known as polio), but he benefited both physically and spiritually after beginning to practise Falun Gong. On June 30th, 2008, police arrested him at his home because they found him playing Falun Gong music on the street. They had him sentenced to two years of forced labour the next day and took him to Nanning City First Labour Camp. He died at age 30 on November 18th, 2008, while detained in the Fourth Ward. On the day of his death, Mr. Yang's older brother and younger sister both rushed to the labour camp to find out the cause. The camp administration pressured his family to try to force them to sign the papers necessary to allow immediate cremation of the body without inspection.
  • Mr. Zhang Litian Dies in Jinzhou City Prison, Liaoning Province

    In April 2008, using the excuse of preparing for the Olympics, Jinzhou City police located every Falun Gong practitioner on their list. They locked Mr. Zhang Litian, 36, up in the Jinzhou City First Detention Centre. He went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. In August, the court sentenced him to five years in Jinzhou City Prison. He died on November 17th, 2008. The Prison Administration told his family that he died of a heart attack, but his family knows that Mr. Zhang was very healthy and never had any heart problems
  • Older Practitioner Ms. Liao Yongyi Dies Due to Years of Persecution in Sichuan Province

    On July 20th, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began slandering Falun Gong. Ms. Liao Yongyi, 66, went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong in November 1999, but was arrested, and detained for fifteen days in the Jiurucun Detention Centre in Chengdu City. The cell was wet, dirty, crowded and without sunlight. Ms. Liao was beaten, cursed, hungry and cold, and she was forced to stand outside overnight in the freezing cold. Later she was arrested again. Ms. Liao almost lost her eyesight, and developed a bad case of rash due to mistreatment during her thirty days of detention. Beginning in 2008, the Neighbourhood Administration placed guards by her apartment door. They pounded on her door 3-6 times per day, loudly questioning her as to what was she doing, and threatened her. She died in September 2008.
  • The Crimes of Sun Juan and Other Officers at Jinan City's No. 1 Women's Forced Labour Camp

    There was practitioner named Li who was in her thirties. She was often beaten by the guards and locked up in a small cell. In October 2007, when she was working in the workshop, guard Zhang Hongfen dragged her to the warehouse at the back of the workshop and beat her. Commander Sun Juan also beat her. Two hours later, Practitioner Li was dragged out. She lay there and could not move for a very long time. Later she was locked up in a small cell. She died this March due to the abuse she suffered.
  • Ms. Zheng Youmei, 61, Dies in Sichuan Province Labour Camp

    In July 1999, Ms. Zheng Youmei, 61, went to Beijing to speak out for justice for Falun Gong and was arrested and detained. Ms. Zheng was later sentenced to 18 months of forced labour and detained in the Nanmusi Women's Forced Labour Camp and was tortured by being locked in a water dungeon, submerged in extremely filthy water, containing rubbish and sewage. She was detained again in a brainwashing centre and then in November 2007 sent to Nanmusi Women's Labour Camp again. Ms. Zheng died in custody on November 2nd, 2008.
  • 22-Year-Old Mr. Li Daixin Dies Shortly after Being Released from a Detention Centre in Liaoning Province

    Mr. Lu Daixin, 22, went to distribute leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong in Xigang District with his mother Ms. Wang Fengjuan (also a practitioner). They were both arrested by police and they ransacked their home and detained them for one month in the Dalian City Detention Centre. Mr. Lu was tortured by being forced to stand for several nights, and brutally beaten. At one point he was forced to watch the cell leader (a prisoner) pull out all of another Falun Gong practitioner's fingernails, one by one. They returned home on October 23rd, 2008, but Mr. Lu died in mental anguish only ten days later on November 3rd, 2008.
  • Mr. Dong Fengshan Dies After Six Days in Siping Prison, Jilin Province

    On October 13th, 2008, police arrested Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Dong Fengshan at his home. Mr. Dong Fengshan was detained in Shanyou Detention Centre and secretly sentenced to nine years in prison. The whole process was done without notifying his family. On October 23rd, 2008, he was taken to the Jilin Province Prison. On October 29th, 2008, Mr. Dong's wife received a call from Siping Prison telling her that said Mr. Dong was dying of an illness. However, when they rushed to the prison, the administration told them that he had already died. Mr. Dong's family were very puzzled, because they had seen him on October 22nd, 2008 in the Songyuan City Detention Centre, one day before he was taken to the Siping Prison, and he was fine and not ill; he ate and slept well, and he was in good spirits and health.
  • Ms. Han Ming Died in 2003 Due to Poisonous Injection in Guizhou Province--Additional Information

    Ms. Han Ming was detained twice for persisting in Falun Gong cultivation, and on February 28th, 2001, she was sentenced to two years of forced labour. While detained in the Guizhou Province Women's Forced Labour Camp, she was injected with an unknown drug, which caused her entire body to suffer muscle atrophy. She died on March 20th, 2003, at the young age of 30.
  • Ms. Gao Zhenfen Died as a Result of Persecution in Dalian City, Liaoning Province

    Ms. Gao Zhenfen was a Falun Gong practitioner who lived in Dalian City, Liaoning Province. On June 5th, 2006, four police officers arrested Ms. Gao on Anyang Street. She was rushed to the March Eighth Square Hospital when she suffered a stroke while in custody. Her friends and family picked her up after she partially recovered. However, she suffered another stroke and died on March 15th, 2007. Details are under investigation.
  • Mr. Shi Changlin Dies from Persecution in Liaoning Province

    Mr. Shi Changlin was persecuted many times for practising Falun Gong. After being detained in the Yi County Detention Centre for three months, Mr. Shi was sentenced to two years of forced labour and taken to the Wangtun Labour Camp in Jinzhou City. While he was detained doing forced labour, Mr. Shi refused to give up his faith, and he was tortured cruelly. The guards tied him with ropes and forced him to sit on wooden boards for a long time. He vomited and passed out due to the mental and physical abuse. In the summer of 2008, there was a large-scale arresting spree during the pre-Olympics season that included Yi County. This terror caused Mr. Shi Changlin extreme pain and tension. His weak body could not bear such huge mental pressure any longer and he died on July 15th, 2008.
  • 36-Year-Old Ms. Fan Yanli Dies after Being Detained in Henan Province

    Ms. Fan Yanli, 36, lived in Nanyang City, Henan Province. On April 24th, 2008, she was arrested along with more than a dozen other Falun Gong practitioners in one of their homes. The police ransacked her home, and she was detained in the Nanyang City First Detention Centre for more than six months. Due to the hard labour, malnutrition, lack of sleep, and constant threats, she became very weak and often vomited. On October 9th, Wolong District Court put Ms. Fan Yanli on trial. She died on October 27th, 2008.
  • 50-Year-Old Ms. Zhou Yuntian Dies Shortly after Being Transferred Out of Shanghai Prison General Hospital

    Ms. Zhou Yuntian, 50, was taken from the Changning District Detention Centre to the Shanghai City Zhoupu Prison General Hospital on August 6th, 2008. She fell unconscious on the morning of August 7th. The doctors diagnosed her, saying that she had no hope of survival. That same afternoon, the prison administration processed her paperwork so that she could be bailed out on medical parole within two hours. On August 8th, she died only three minutes after being taken to an outside hospital. Her son is currently still detained in the Changning District Detention Centre. The details are yet to be investigated.
  • Older Ms. Zhang Qiuhong Dies in Anhui Province As a Result of Persecution

    On June 21st, 2008, police stormed into 60-year-old Ms. Zhang Qiuhong's rented room and forcibly arrested her. Ms. Zhang went on a hunger strike to protest, and her life was subsequently in danger. The police took her to the Hefei City First Hospital. They finally agreed to let her obtain a guarantor for her pending trial on June 30th, 2008, after she passed out 19 times. She was finally checked out of the hospital on July 17th. In late September two agents from the Luyang District Court came to her door again, and forced her to sign her name to prove she was home. Ms. Zhang died on October 18th as a result of the continued persecution.
