  • Older Practitioner Mr. Zhao Guoji Dies After Being Detained in Majiaping Prison, Sichuan Province

    On March 17th, 2007, police arrested Mr. Ma Guoji, 63, and took him to the district detention centre. During the time Mr. Zhao was being interrogated, doctors at the hospital diagnosed him with a bone tumour and hypertension. He should have been released for hospitalization, but the Bazhou District Court still sentenced him to five years in prison. As a result of the detention and brutal mistreatment, Mr. Zhao Guoji could no longer walk, was emaciated, and could not take care of himself. In order to shirk responsibility, prison administration officials took him home on March 20th, 2008. He died on October 18th, 2008.
  • Ms. Li Junxia Dies Following Severe Persecution

    Practitioner Ms. Li Junxia, 42 years old, lost her permanent job during the persecution, was forced to flee her home to avoid being arrested, was arrested multiple times and detained, and was twice sentenced to forced labour for two and a half years. She was arrested in July 2008 when she was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. At the brainwashing centre she suffered a mental collapse as a result of the persecution. Ms. Li was released after the Olympics ended. Her mental state was not stable and she would often speak nonsense. On November 7th, people found Ms. Li Junxia lying on the cement ground under her home window on the fourth floor. People called for an ambulance, and she died at the hospital.
  • Elder Sister Persecuted to Death, Younger Sister in Prison Again

    Ms. Wang Wenjun and Ms. Wang Wenjuan, two sisters from Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province, were arrested, detained, and sentenced to forced labour simply because they refused to give up their belief in Falun Gong. The older sister, Ms. Wang Wenjun, died five years ago because of the inhumane treatment she was subjected to in Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. She was only 38 years old. The younger sister, Ms. Wang Wenjun, had been sentenced to Masanjia for three years. She was sent to Masanjia again this year.
  • Additional Information on the Death of Ms. Zheng Youmei from Sichuan Province

    In November 2007, 61-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zheng Youmei was arrested and sent to the Nanmusi Female Labour Camp. On November 2nd, 2008, she died from torture. Labour camp staff informed her family that Ms. Zheng died of a brain haemorrhage. When the family viewed her body Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agents surrounded the family. After less than two minutes, they were forced out. Ms Zheng's family asked if they could clean her body and change her clothes but were refused. The family surmises that her body had already been prepared and made-up when they viewed it. Ms Zheng was cremated without the family's permission.
  • Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Li Zhengling Died in Custody

    Mr. Li Zhengling was subjected to three years of persecution in a forced labour camp because he had organized about 300 people to do the Falun Gong exercises. On February 4th, 2005, he was arrested again after the police ransacked his home and found Falun Gong materials. He was sentenced to five years imprisonment. Li Zhengling was sent to Deyang Prison, where he became blind due to continuous mistreatment. On June 21st, 2008, Mr. Li's family members received a notice that he was critically ill. He died on June 24th, 2008.
  • The Persecution of Ms. Tan Jianju by the 610 Office of Zengcheng City, Guangdong Province

    In July 2008, officers from the 610 Office of Zengcheng City and the Xiaolou Town Police Station arrested Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Tan Jianju and took her to the "law education school" for brainwashing. Ms. Tan Jianju is still mentally disoriented after recently leaving the brainwashing centre. The local police still threaten to revoke her permanent residency registration. In 2002, Ms. Tan married Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Guohua. Shortly after their marriage, Mr. Liu was arrested and sentenced to two years in a labour camp. Ms. Tan was pregnant at the time. Mr. Liu developed serious uraemia after being persecuted in the labour camp. Mr. Liu Guohua died at age 30.
  • Mr. Zhang Litian Beaten to Death in Jinzhou City Prison, Liaoning Province

    According to eyewitnesses, Mr. Zhang Litian was beaten multiple times by prisoners in the Jinzhou City Prison. On November 16th, 2008, he went on hunger strike to protest the brutal beatings. The next day, on November 17th, Warden Zhang Baozhi encouraged four prisoners to cruelly beat Mr. Zhang Litian to death. He died after being detained for one month. Many prisoners witnessed this incident.
  • Children Request Release of Mother from Prison after Their Father and Grandmother Pass Away

    Ms. Xu Youqin, a Falun Gong practitioner, was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment. Her husband Mr. Zang Dianlong died as a result of persecution. Her mother-in-law found it hard taking care of Ms Xu's two children and under such huge mental and physical pressure, the mother-in-law passed away in mid-September 2008. Left alone with no one to care for them, the two children requested the authorities of the Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison to release their mother.
  • Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Li Zhengling Dies in Custody

    On December 28th, 2004, 7 policemen broke into Mr. Li Zhengling's home, and he was taken to the Gulin Detention Centre. The police also ransacked his home many times. On February 4th, 2005, he was arrested again, and sentenced to five years of imprisonment. At that time, Mr. Li's eyesight was very poor, so his family members asked that he be allowed to stay home, but their request was refused. Li Zhengling was sent to Deyang Prison, where he became blind due to continuous mistreatment. On June 21st, 2008, Mr. Li's family members received notice that he was critically ill. They were told that Li Zhengling's blood pressure had been just over 60 when he was brought to the hospital on June 11th and that he had died at 5:30 a.m. that day, June 24th.
  • Mr. Liang Bosheng Dies as Result of Persecution in Jilin Province

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liang Bosheng was sentenced to forced labour in 1999, and he served a two-year term in the Chaoyanggou Forced Labour Camp. He suffered numerous hardships including being deprived of sleep, starved, and forced to sit on a bed-board all day until his legs were numb. He was given a two-year term again in 2002. Mr. Liang refused to write the statements renouncing Falun Gong, so the guards instructed the prisoners to strip him, push him into the toilet, open the windows, and hose him with freezing cold water. Mr. Liang was dying by the time he was released on medical parole on October 30th, 2003. He became disabled due to the persecution. Mr. Liang died on March 19th, 2006, at age 49.
  • Details Regarding Mr. Yang Jiaye's Death While in Custody in Guangxi Region

    Mr. Yang Jiaye, 41, went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong after the persecution started. In the spring of 2002, he was arrested and sentenced to two years of forced labour for distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong. Police arrested Mr. Yang again at his home on June 30th, 2008. They had him sentenced to two years of forced labour and took him to the Nanning City First Labour Camp in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. He died on November 18th, 2008, while detained.
  • Ms. Mao Yaping Died in 2007 as a Result of Brainwashing and Torture in Gansu Province

    In November 2002, practitioner Ms. Mao Yaping was arrested at work because she had appealed for Falun Gong and forcibly taken to the notorious Gongjiawan Brainwashing Centre - the "Lanzhou City Legal Education School." On July 20th, 2003, guards at the centre began their cruel torture of detained practitioners. Ms. Mao was hung up by the handcuffs for more than ten days and confined for more than one month. Severe physical and mental abuse damaged her health badly, and she never recovered. She suffered kidney failure and died on October 2nd, 2007 in her hometown of Tianshui City, Gansu Province.
  • Ms. Wu Di Dies as a Result of Persecution in Jiangsu Province

    Ms. Wu Di, in her 40s, went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was arrested and detained in a labour camp. In 2001, Ms Wu Di was taken by force to the Xuzhou City Chaping Mental Hospital. In this facility, drugs harmful to the central nervous system were administered to the practitioners against their will. Later she was imprisoned in Nanjing City Women's Prison and was tortured to the point of mental collapse. Upon returning home in 2007, Suining City 610 Office chief Yang Shuguang and Domestic Security Division Chief Li Jun have repeatedly harassed her, followed her, and threatened her. At around 11 p.m. on November 10th, 2008, she went missing, and her family found her body drowned in the Cheng River.
  • Twin Brothers Are Persecuted for Being Good People;Their Mother Dies While They Are Imprisoned

    Because twin brothers Mr. Cong Ming and Mr. Cong Liang practise Falun Gong, they have been subjected to persecution by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for the past nine years. Mr. Cong Ming was sentenced to nine years of imprisonment in 2001, and he is still in prison. His brother Mr. Cong Liang was arrested and imprisoned on August 10th, 2008. Their mother was left alone with no one to look after her. She died in early November 2008.
  • Older Practitioner Mr. Wang Shouren Dies Two Months after Release from Henan Province Forced Labour Camp

    In May 2007, Mr. Wang Shouren, 64 was arrested again by police and sentenced to 18 months of forced labour. He was taken to the Baimiao Forced Labour Camp again. Before the 2008 New Year, all of the prisoners were forced to do slave labour for 18 hours each day, which was later reduced to 15 hours. Under such severe conditions, Mr. Wang was too weak to eat, emaciated, and could not take care of himself when the Camp Administration released him. He died two months after returning home on September 14th, 2008.
