  • Schoolteacher Ms. Hu Meizhi Arrested in Jiayu County, Hubei Province

    Ms. Hu Meizhi, a schoolteacher at the Paizhouwan Central School in Jiayu County, Hubei Province, was arrested on September 9th, 2009. The school leaders led the local police to arrest her. Chen Zhe (school principal of the Paizhouwan Central School as well as the Lantian Secondary School) and Yin Zuozhong (vice principal) read the newsletter "Words from the Heart in Jiayu County" and discovered that their bad deeds were exposed there. In order to take revenge on Falun Gong practitioners, Chen Zhe and Yin Zuozhong requested personnel from the County 610 office to arrest teacher Ms. Hu Meizhi and send her to a brainwashing centre.
  • Ms. Zhao Juanjuan, a Retired Cadre, Arrested for the Tenth Time

    On September 12th, 2009, Ms. Zhao Juanjuan, 70, was arrested by 610 Office police in Doumen County as she was handing out materials that explained the facts about Falun Gong at Niwan Market in Jingan Town, Juhai City. She was detained in the Second Hotel in Jingan Town. This is her tenth arrest. She has been monitored, arrested, detained, and sentenced to a labour camp over ten times.
  • Gross Mistreatment of Practitioners Continues at the Hebei Women's Forced Labour Camp

    Practitioners in Hebei Women's Forced Labour Camp have been forced to do extremely hard labour that is beyond the their physical endurance. They have to load and unload products from the first floor to the second and third floors. They also have to make mobile phone covers and shower curtains. It is said that the shower curtains are to be exported overseas. Some practitioners sort chopsticks and pick out cotton seeds (the seeds are for the Academy of Hebei Province Agricultural Science and the Academy of Shijiazhuang City Agricultural Science), paste labels onto the bottles of chemical fertilizers and instant noodles and make lanterns.

    On September 8th, 2009, the police arrested Ms. Zhang Ying at her in-law's home. When her in-law asked the police why they were arresting her and ransacking their home, and if they had any legal justification, one of the police officers answered, "We are arresting her for interrogation and investigation. The proof will be found eventually." This was her fourth arrest. Ms. Zhang's husband, was sentenced to ten years in prison and had almost lost his eyesight after eight years of imprisonment at the Shanghai Lanqiao Prison.
  • The Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioner Li Yuqui and His Family

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Yuqui, 56, was detained at a police station in Beijing in 2001, where the agents tortured him severely. He recounts: "I refused to tell them where I was from. The police took off my shoes and seven police officers tortured me. They handcuffed me backwards, hung me in the air by the handcuffs, and used several electric batons to simultaneously shock me on my back and on the soles of my feet. Then they lowered me to the floor, shackled me and shocked my back and the soles of my feet again. I screamed from the pain and my feet twitched and scraped between the shackles and the concrete floor, peeling off skin on my toes and exposing my bones."
  • Seven Falun Gong Practitioners from Shulan City Recount Their Persecution Experiences

    My name is Meng Xiangfa, and I am 57 years old. In 2002, police arrested me and my wife because we practise Falun Gong. I was sent to Chaoyanggou Labour Camp in Changchun City, where I was grossly abused for two years. While at the labour camp, I wasn't allowed to speak with other practitioners. I had to sit on a small stool more than 14 hours daily and had to do intensive hard labour. They often incited criminals to beat and verbally abuse practitioners. They tried to "reform" us by depriving us of sleep. The officials used all kinds of tactics to torture us to achieve their goals, frequently using electric batons to shock us, beating and kicking us, depriving us of sleep, and extending our terms.
  • Mr. Wang Dejun and His Wife Arrested in Gaomi City, Shandong Province

    Mr. Wang Dejun and Mrs. Wang Xianglan are husband and wife. On August 31st, 2009, when their daughter left for school, officers from Jiangzhuang, hid near their home and arrested this couple. They are detained in the Gaomi Detention Centre and are being tortured. This couple has been persecuted for many years just because they believe in Falun Gong. Ms. Wang Xianglan was sentenced to two years of forced labour.
  • Ms. Yang Songli from Chongqing Arrested, Son Beaten

    On September 17th, 2009, police charged into the home of Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yang Songli to arrest her. Her son Gao Yang leaped up to protest and protect his mother. However, Domestic Security police officer Chen Xiaodong beat him to the ground, and policeman Liang Shibin forced his knee into Gao Yang's face. He then stomped on his face, wearing shoes, while continually cursing at him. I was among the crowd that witnessed the event and it broke my heart to see a young man of 20 being beaten to the ground like that. Gao Yang was forcefully taken away.
  • Practitioners Tortured at Shijiazhuang Women's Labour Camp

    Many Falun Gong practitioners are being detained in Division 4 of Shijiazhuang Labour Camp, Hebei Province. In order to force practitioners give up their belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, the guards there brutally torture and humiliate practitioners. As a consequence, some practitioners are force-fed, and they vomit blood. Five practitioners were deprived of access to the toilet and were not allowed to interact with other people. They had to urinate and defecate in the small, dark and damp cell. Police guards did not allow them to wash or change their clothing. Every day they were handcuffed and forced to sit on small stools.
  • Ms. Zhou Liying Tortured in Hohhot Women's Forced Labour Camp

    On September 2nd, 2007, policen arrested Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhou Liying. Later she was sentenced to two years of forced labour and now she is still detained in Hohhot Women's Forced Labour Camp. In the labour camp, as she refused to be "transformed", she suffered physical punishments numerous times. Once she shouted "Falun Gong is good" and "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good", and the guards took turns attacking her. She was not allowed to sleep for three consecutive days and not allowed to use the toilet for thirteen hours. Once the guards ordered her to stand for eight consecutive days and the guards forced her to labour in the glove workshop for 15 hours a day.
  • Crimes Committed by Chang Zhanglin, a Policeman from Linzhou City, Henan Province

    On March 31st, 2009, Chang Zhanglin, a 610 Office policeman, arrested eleven Falun Gong practitioners at Hongqi Square in Linzhou City, Henan Province. For years, Chang Zhanglin has persecuted local practitioners. He is notorious for making unjust arrests. In July 2000, Chang Zhanglin arrested practitioners Zhang Tianshun and Wang Jianbin; Zhang Tainshun was imprisoned for 50 days and Wang Jianbin for 40 days. During the opening of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Sixteenth National Party Congress, both practitioners were arrested again, and taken to a 610 Office brainwashing unit in Linxhou City.
  • Ms. Zhang Ying from Shanghai Arrested Again after Long-term Persecution

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Ying was arrested at her mother-in-law's home on September 8th, 2009, by police. Ms. Zhang's parents-in-law questioned the police: "Why do you arrest her and ransack our homes for no reason? Do you have any legal evidence for doing this?" Officer Yang Ying replied, "We are arresting her for the purpose of interrogation--evidence will be produced later. Our responsibility is only to arrest her." Ms. Zhang is being held in the Changning District Detention Centre in Shanghai. This is the fourth arrest for Ms. Zhang. Because she practises Falun Gong, she was sentenced to forced labour for two and a half years in 2001. Not long after she was released from the labour camp, she was sent to a brainwashing centre and then sentenced to forced labour for one year in 2005.
  • The Persecution of Mr. Zhang Hongzhang in Wuyishan City, Fujian Province

    Mr. Zhang Hongzhang was once Head of Education Bureau Workers' Union as well as Head of the Education Bureau Finance Department. Because of pressure from higher government agencies, the Education Bureau removed these titles from him because he practised Falun Gong. Mr. Zhang was arrested by police on April 30th. As a result he suffered many illnesses. On May 9th, he passed out due to high blood pressure during an interrogation and the police sent him to hospital. Many friends and co workers went to the hospital to visit him. However, the police were afraid that his situation would be exposed and thus forcibly took him away although he was severely ill. Mr. Zhang Hongzhang is now detained at Wuyishan Detention Centre.
  • Brutal Torture Methods Used in Shandong Province Forced Labour Camps

    In order to force Falun Gong practitioners into giving up their practice, guards at the Shandong Province First Women's Labour Camp and Men's Labour Camp use very cruel torture methods. The guards hang female practitioners in the form of a cross by their handcuffs, with their feet barely touching the floor. The practitioners are given very little food each day, just enough to barely sustain them from dying. The guards at the men's labour camp tie practitioners' private parts with ropes. This blocks the urine flow, causing the entire body to swell. It is extremely painful.
  • The Persecution of Practitioners in Tumuji Forced Labour Camp in 2009

    Over 20 Falun Gong practitioners are detained in the men's section of Tumuji Forced Labour Camp in Jalaid Qi, Xinganmeng, Inner Mongolia. After it became known that the Tumuji Forced Labour Camp didn't allow practitioners to make phone calls home and forced them to work extra hours at night to weave carpets, and practitioners resistance of the persecution were exposed, the labour camp eased up a little, although they still did not allow practitioners to make phone calls home. They even checked the luggage of those inmates who were released in case any practitioners' letters were taken out.
