  • Ms. Li Guihua from Jiujiang City Arrested; Family Pressured to Pay for Her Release

    Local police arrested 62-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Li Guihua in late November 2009 because she talked to people about Falun Gong. Domestic Security Division officials attempted to extort 100,000 yuan from her family. Ms. Li's family was unable to pay that much, so the officers said that they could release Ms. Li if her family paid 10,000 yuan. Ms. Li was previously subjected to persecution many times. Her family had trouble making ends meet, even before being forced to pay such a large amount of money. Ms. Li's whereabouts are currently unknown.
  • Southwest Jiaotong University Teacher Ms. Zou Hongying Arrested and Tortured

    One week before the 2008 Olympic torch relay passed through Emeishan, police from the Emeishan Mountain Area arrested Ms. Zou Hongying, a Southwest Jiaotong University professor. They ransacked her home before taking her to Sichuan Province Women's Prison on February 12th, 2009. Previously, in 2005, Ms. Zou was arrested and detained in a brainwashing centre to try to force her to renounce Falun Gong. Her husband was in deep distress and asked for a divorce. Their daughter was only two years old.
  • Older Practitioner Ms. Wang Quanhua Subjected to Three Years of Forced Labour

    Guards at Guizhou Province Women's Forced Labour Camp have mentally tormented and physically harmed Ms. Wang Quanhua for three years. The camp is a hell on earth. She was placed in a dark cell and guarded by a dozen drug offenders who took turns monitoring her around the clock. Ms. Wang was forced to stand straight and still at all times. A tiny movement would result in her being beaten and kicked. Ms. Wang developed swollen legs from standing so long.

    On July 29th, 2008, I was arrested and sent to forced labour for 15 months. I had to pack 5,000 pairs of "Sterile Chopsticks" each day. If I could not meet the quota I would be physically and verbally abused. [My left hand is still swollen now and hurts.] At night I had to memorise the prison rules and regulations. My food consisted of three daily portions of soup that were frequently mixed with bugs and dirt. Prison guards forced practitioners to be "reformed [forcibly renounce Falun Gong]." They forced practitioners to sign three prepared statements.
  • The Persecution of Practitioners in Handan City Forced Labour Camp, Hebei Province

    A typical day in Handan City Forced Labour Camp starts at 6:00 a.m. After washing, the forced labour of making wreaths begins and doesn't stop until 9:30 p.m. There is almost no break time. The three insubstantial meals include two small buns, a piece of pickled vegetable, and a ladle of thin rice soup for breakfast, two buns with a scoop of bok-choy (Chinese cabbage) soup, sometimes with tree leaves or worms in it, for lunch, and two buns with a scoop of thin rice soup for supper. The food is not enough for anybody. As soon as a refill is announced, the other inmates all run to get more, leaving nothing for Falun Gong practitioners. In addition, the workshop is in the dining hall, and the irritating smell left from the work materials lingers.
  • 60-Year-Old Ms. Guan Peixia Tortured in Heizuizi Women's Prison for Six Years

    It is hard to describe all of the daily physical and mental tortures I have suffered in Heizuizi Women's Prison over the past six years. I went on a protest hunger strike on October 20th, 2006. During each forced-feeding session, they forced between 1.5 kg and 2 kg of unknown food into my stomach, followed by pouring water down my throat to the extent that the water nearly came out of my mouth. They held me down to prevent me from vomiting or moving. When I struggled to get up, they grabbed my hair and smacked my head against a wall, causing several bumps. I did not want to open my eyes and felt dizzy all the time. I suffered from bouts of headaches and always wanted to sleep. When they could not insert the feeding tube, they blamed me for holding the hunger strike. Later on I vomited blood.
  • Ms. Zhang Ying Detained for Three Months

    Ms. Zhang Ying was arrested by the Changning Police Department on September 8th, 2009. In the police station, she was hung by her wrists handcuffed behind her back, and then tortured. She passed out many times from the pain. She was subsequently taken to the Shanghai Prison Hospital for emergency treatment. She has now been detained for three months.
  • Mr. Chen Yongtao Beaten in Sihui Prison, Guangdong Province

    Recently Mr. Chen Yongtao was beaten by criminals in Sihui Prison, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. People in prison tried to brainwash him to make him give up Falun Gong. Once, claiming that Mr. Chen was not sitting properly, the criminals slapped him and then kneed him in the lower back, causing on-going pain. Chen Yongtao and his wife were arrested in a big hunt and arrested "to ensure the security of the Olympic Torch relay" by Guangzhou City on April 15th, 2008. Later on both of them were sentenced to three years. His wife, Zou Danyu, was detained in Guangzhou Women's Prison. On August 25th, 2009, Mr. Chen was secretly transferred to Sihui Prison.
  • Two Police Officers Persecuted For Practising Falun Gong in Fushun City

    Police officers Xia Hailong and Wang Xiaoming, who work in the Fushun City police system, have been persecuted for practising Falun Gong. After Xia Hailong was arrested, in October 2009, the Fushun police persecuted practitioner Mr. Wang Xiaoming, who worked in the Xinbin County Police Department. They collected materials to prove that he practises Falun Gong, and through the discipline committee they attempted to suspend him from his job. News revealed that they were not successful, but the Fushun City Police Department pressured the Xinbin County Police Department and demanded that they work with the human resources division to fire Mr. Wang.
  • After Being Imprisoned for Eight Years, Yu Lixin Is Sentenced to Another Four Years

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yu Lixin had been sentenced to a forced labour camp. He was detained there for eight years. While in the forced labour camp, he was severely persecuted. He was not released until 2009. Recently he was arrested and sent to a forced labour camp again. In January 2001, Mr. Yu went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. He was arrested and detained at the Wenling Detention Centre. He went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. Zhu Sufang, Police force-fed him. They used sharp bamboo sticks to pry open his tightly clenched teeth. His mouth bled and his face became swollen. Then police fixed him on a wooden frame with his four limbs stretched wide open and then gave him injections of concentrated salt solution.
  • Police from Huludao City Plan to Prosecute Mr. Yu Haiyang as Part of Their Relentless Persecution

    Over the past ten years, Mr. Yu Haiyang and his wife Ms. Li Fengchun have been arrested multiple times by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officers and police. They have ransacked their home, detained them, sent them to forced labour camps, forced them to undergo brainwashing, and extorted money from them. This May, Mr. Yu Haiyang and Ms. Li Fengchun were arrested again. The police ransacked their home and detained them. After being released, Mr. Yu Haiyang went to see the police and asked for the return of their confiscated property. The police detained him again instead. As a result of this arrest, both Mr. Yu and his wife lost their jobs. Mr. Yu Haiyang has been detained for six months. The police station of Huludao City plans to prosecute him. Mr. Yu's family has hired attorneys to defend him.
  • Eight Practitioners Sentenced to Forced Labour

    On September 23rd, 2009, police officers from different townships, including those from the National Security Division of Lixian County Police Department and the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), broke into the homes of 14 practitioners. They forced their way in by smashing or prying the doors open with crowbars, then proceeded to ransack the homes. Twelve practitioners were arrested, eight of whom were denied any legal defence and sent to forced labour camps within three days of their arrests. The judge even attempted to sentence one of the practitioners to a long sentence.
  • Women's Forced Labour Camp in Shandong Tortures Falun Gong Practitioners

    Ms. Li Mengting, 45, was once detained for three years at the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. She was arrested by police and sentenced to two years of forced labour for distributing Falun Gong fliers on a train and is detained at the Jinan City First Women's Forced Labour Camp. The guards tried to trick her into giving up her practice of Falun Gong. When that failed, they started beating her brutally and depriving her of sleep. When she went on a hunger strike to protest, the camp guards tied her on a "death bed" and left her there for over fifty days. They force-fed her with a tube fixed at the end of the bed. She was not released from the bed until she was on the verge of death and mentally deranged. She was coerced into writing a guarantee statement to give up practising Falun Gong.
  • Defence Attorneys Cite Illegal Police Actions in Court in Ji'an City, Jilin Province

    On November 25th, 2009, the court of Jian City, Jilin Province held trials for three practitioners Mr. Feng Zhengde, Mr. Zhang Xuejie, and Ms. Zhao Hongli. During the first trial, the judge repeatedly ordered Mr. Zhang Chuanli to stop giving his statement for the defence. Mr. Zhang Chuanli refused and asserted that the judge's order was illegal. In the trials, the three attorneys cited illegal police actions such as: while arresting practitioners and searching their homes, officers did not wear uniforms, and did not show identification, arrest warrants, or search warrants; and confessions were extracted through torture.
  • Five Falun Gong Practitioners Detained for Months in Loudi City, Hunan Province

    At least five Falun Gong practitioners were arrested a few months ago. The evidence submitted by the Louxing Domestic Security Bureau, all fabricated and flawed, has been returned by the Procuratorate. However, the Louxing Domestic Security Bureau officials have still refused to release these practitioners. Mr. Ouyang Zhong is a doctor specialising in Chinese herbal medicine. He has three children to raise, two of which are still in kindergarten, and his wife does not work. On the evening of July 15th, 2009 Louxing District police broke into his home, arrested him, and detained him since then.
