Falun Gong practitioners in Frankfurt

As a reaction to the latest developments in Hong Kong, Frankfurt practitioners staged a sit-in protest last week in front of various offices representing Hong Kong interests, to point out the endangering passage of Article 23, an addition to Hong Kong’s Basic Law.

The first sit-in took place in front of the Hong Kong Tourism office. Our visit to this office made it possible for us to thoroughly inform the manager and employees about this newest addition to Hong Kong law. The manager listened attentively and told as that he had an appointment for this very evening with the sales manager from the head office in Hong Kong, and that he would bring up the subject with him when they meet.

We presented him with handouts that he could pass on to the Hong Kong manager during their meeting. This man remembered us from a prior meeting. We had already met during August when we held a similar sit-in in front of his office, to protest the guilty verdict against 16 Falun Gong practitioners in Hong Kong. He showed us his personal, written statement regarding this incident, a letter he had since forwarded to the head offices in Hong Kong. The message stated that our activities here are in no way detrimental to the image of the Hong Kong office, nor will they negatively affect tourism.

During the time between 12pm and 1pm, many passers-by listened extensively to our explanations about Falun Gong and the persecution in China. Several showed great concern about the Hong Kong situation. We distributed much informational material. Our information booth was located at a major traffic junction, for both automobiles and public trams. Scores of passing cars could not help but notice our banner reading “Truth, Compassion, Tolerance” and also saw us performing the Falun Gong exercises.

Wednesday we held another sit-in protest in front of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council offices. The press liaison received us cordially. She had already read our information sheet, which she had previously obtained, and listened attentively to what we had to say. She also remembered our August sit-in protest to point out the unjust verdict in Hong Kong against the 16 Falun Gong practitioners. We supplied her with additional printed information.

Our booth also attracted numerous passengers who used the public tram transportation system. Many of those accepted the materials we handed out and asked further questions, enabling us to continue talking with them and give them a deeper understanding of Falun Gong.
