On August 15, at a press conference held by the UK Falun Gong Association, Former Vice Secretary of State of the United Kingdom and former Governor of Panama, Lord Thurlow, strongly condemned the unjust verdict issued by the Hong Kong court to the Falun Gong practitioners. Lord Thurlow said:

"The verdict showed that Hong Kong no longer has the freedom and rights that were ensured by the Hong Kong Basic Laws signed by both China and United Kingdom in 1997. It showed that the Hong Kong government received pressure from the Chinese Communist government (Jiang’s regime) and sacrificed its people's human rights to submit to this pressure.

Obviously, the Chinese president Jiang Zemin is now pushing this unprecedented persecution of one hundred million innocent Falun Gong practitioners to the extreme. Thousands of practitioners were tortured to death, tens of thousands of practitioners have been locked in forced labour re-education camps, and more than a hundred thousand of practitioners were illegally arrested.

Now, evidence shows that this persecution has been extended to Hong Kong. All governments and people from the free world have the responsibility to express their stand, namely, it is absolutely unacceptable to allow any extension of this Chinese police state type of behaviour."
