Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Fu Guichun was from Jinshandun District, Yichun in Heilongjiang Province. She was arrested in May 2002 and forced to have an abortion; she was then sentenced to eight years in prison and held in Harbin Women's Prison. Ms. Fu was brutally persecuted to the point of unconsciousness numerous times. She developed diabetes and other illnesses in prison. When she was released in 2009, she was traumatised and injured both mentally and physically. Ms. Fu died on May 1st, only in her forties.

Entire family gradually takes up cultivation practice

Ms. Fu Guichun learned about Falun Gong when a practitioner explained the facts about Falun Gong to her. Her brother Fu You also practised Falun Gong, and told his sister that it would be great for her to begin the practice, to which she agreed.

Ms. Fu had previously suffered from neck pain, arthritis and gynaecological disease. Her neck pain disappeared after only one week of practice. She used to have a hot temper, and would often quarrel with her husband when she was a restaurant chef. She learned from studying the teachings of Falun Gong that she needed to improve her character. Her husband noticed that she'd become considerate and tolerant, and thought that Falun Gong was really wonderful, so he also began cultivation practice. He subsequently gave up alcohol and smoking.

Ms. Fu's mother-in-law noticed the changes in her son, and also began practising; she became healthier and stronger, looking like she was in her sixties even though she was actually in her eighties.

Husband and wife sentenced to labour camp

In July 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began its campaign of slander and persecution of Falun Gong. Ms. Fu's husband Wang Jibin was driving practitioners from the Fengmao Forest Farm to Beijing, but they were stopped by secretary Wang Jing from their workplace. Three days later, Wang Shoumin and Min Changchun deceived Wang Jibin and Fu Guichun and took them to a brainwashing centre in the Jinshandun District Police Department. They were released one week later.

In 2000, Fu Guichun and Wang Jibin observed over two hundred practitioners travelling to Beijing to appeal for the right to practise Falun Gong, so they decided to go as well. The next day, ten practitioners (mostly from Fengmao) went to Beijing and displayed a banner worded, “Falun Gong guides people to be kind.” They were arrested and held in a police station basement. Practitioners Fu Guichun, Wang Jibin, Lang Xianguo, Li Yuqin, Yuan Ai, Wang Xinchun and Li Hongsheng were taken to the Jinshandun Detention Centre by Fengmao Forest Farm staff Li Hongqi, Wang Jikui, Wang Jun and Niu Xingzheng, along with the Jinshandun Police Department's Kang Kai and Xiao Jingyu. Farm director Wang Changqi and officer Wang Shoumin struck the practitioners' faces. After videotaping the beatings, Wang Xinchun was struck again on the face and chest.

The next day, Wang Changqi, officer Wang Shoumin and secretary Xie Yonghui went to the detention centre, and took Wang Xinchun, Wang Jibin, Zhang Zhicheng and Geng Chuanyun to separate rooms. People hired to beat them were waiting in each room. Each Falun Gong practitioner was beaten until their bodies were heavily bruised; they were then forced to sit. The detention centre assistant director ordered the staff to starve the practitioners, who were also forced to stand for days. They were then given only soup to eat for one month. Wang Jibin was forced to stand for three straight days, despite his hands and feet being severely swollen due to the beatings. The practitioners were also subjected to forced labor. On June 8th, 2000, Wang Jibin and Wang Xinchun were sentenced to one year in a forced labour camp. Fu Guichun was released after the camp extorted 500 yuan1 from her family.

Officers Wang Shoumin and Min Changchun arrested Fu Guichun, Liu Lixia, Li Hongsheng and her husband in December 2000; they also raided their homes. Fu Guichun, Liu Lixia and Wang Guixiang were sentenced to one year in the Helongjiang Women's Detox Labor Camp. Li Hongsheng was sentenced to one year in the Yichun Forced Labor Camp. Ms. Fu Guichun was released on June 8, 2001.

In April 2002, officers Wang Shoumin and Min Changchun arrested Wang Jibin at his home, then took him to the police station, where he was tortured. He was later sentenced to four years in prison.

Forced to have an abortion, Ms. Fu Guichun sentenced to eight years in prison

Practitioners Fu Guichun, Liu Qingping and Wang Yanping were arrested on May 8, 2002. They were bound to iron chairs and tortured all night. Li Qingping was covered with injuries. On the third day, officer Xue Laosan took Ms. Fu to the Wuyiling Detention Centre. Ms. Fu was pregnant, yet the Wuyiling Police Station authorities decided that she should undergo a forced abortion. Reports indicated that the mayor of Yichun was also aware of the forced abortion.

Torture re-enactment: Iron chair

At first, assistant director Dong Delin from the Jinshandun Police Department, Gao Yujie from the Fengmao Forest Farm Family Planning Commission and Wang Jikui attempted to persuade Ms. Fu to have an abortion [Note: Chinese Law forbids incarcerating pregnant or nursing women]. They said: “Even if you don't have an abortion, you will still be sentenced to prison; do you want to suffer in prison?” However, several hospitals in Yichun refused to perform the abortion.

After this failed attempt, Gao Yujie and Kang Kai from the Jinshandun Police Department took Ms. Fu to a hotel in another attempt to have her agree to an abortion. At around 10:00 a.m., farm CCP secretary Xie Yonghui arrived and asked the others to leave, since he wanted to speak privately with Ms. Fu. As soon as they were alone, he began slapping her face. Blood ran from her mouth and her ears were ringing. She started to scream and went to the door, but was stopped by Gao Yujie and Kang Kai. She was later taken back to the Wuyiling Detention Centre.

Gao Yujie and Xue Laosan brought in Ms. Fu's son Wang Zhaohui, to use him for a third attempt to persuade her to agree to an abortion. She was finally forced to undergo an abortion in July 2002. Two months later, she was sentenced to eight years in prison. Xue Laosan made great efforts to persecute Falun Gong practitioners, and was promoted to director of the 610 Office. On September 21, 2002, Ms. Fu was transferred to the Harbin Women's Prison. Her brother was also sentenced to three years of imprisonment due his belief in Falun Dafa.

Tortured in prison

Ms. Fu was forced to give up her belief after intensified brainwashing. She was subjected to this intense training for 15 days, and forced to stay in a squatting position from morning until midnight. After one week, her legs were swollen and bruised; she then refused to cooperate with the guards. In November 2002, she was forced to write statements denouncing Falun Dafa; however, she also wrote a solemn declaration to cultivate again which nullified all the things she had written in the past against her will.

Yang Shuhua was a guard in the 3rd Prison District who forced inmates to perform forced labor. All practitioners refused to perform the labor, and were forced to squat for over ten days.

In October 2003, Ms. Fu refused to do labor, and was held in solitary confinement for one month and three days.

On January 29, 2004, a guard was slandering Dafa, so Ms. Fu stood up and stopped him. A group of inmates rushed over, pushed her to the ground and covered her mouth. A guard named Li ordered Ms. Fu to be placed in solitary confinement. She continued clarifying the truth to the guard, but was held in solitary confinement for two weeks.

Torture re-enactment: Hung up

In the summer of 2005, all Falun Gong practitioners in prison were tortured by being hung up. Ms. Fu's hands were cuffed behind her back, and she was hung for one hour and five minutes. She felt incredible pain, as her heart seemed to jump out of her chest, and she passed out. After regaining consciousness, she was hung up again, then passed out again. The handcuffs cut deep into her flesh. A guard poured water on her face and carried her back to the cell.

Ms. Fu was hung up again after refusing to wear the prison uniform. She was hung up two more times after that.

In November 2005, practitioners from all prison sections refused to wear the prison uniform, and refused to follow the orders of the prison officials. They were then dragged to the field and forced to run. They were stripped of their winter clothes and forced to stand in the cold wind. Other inmates were ordered to whip practitioners with sticks; some bled from the whipping.

The guards and inmates forced practitioners to put on the prison uniforms, then buried them in the snow. Ms. Fu attempted to stop them, but was beaten. Practitioners underwent sleep deprivation, were forced to sit on small benches for extended periods, were only allowed bathroom use in a group, and were not given individual breaks. The abuse continued until the new year.

In 2006, there was another round of intensified persecution including beatings and pulling hair. Guards Tao and Wang personally monitored the torture.

Ms. Fu developed diabetes in 2007, but was not released until May 2009.

The trauma and injuries she suffered were extensive and beyond recovery. Ms. Fu died on May 1st, 2012.
