Name: Wang Jie
Gender: Female
Age: Approximately 48
Address: Shenyang City, Liaoning Province
Occupation: Staff
Date of Death: April 21st, 2012
Date of Most Recent Arrest: September 26th, 2010
Most recent place of detention: Shenyang City Detention Centre
City: Shenyang
Province: Liaoning
Persecution Suffered: Detention, forced labour, hanging by handcuffs, brutal beatings, electric baton shock, force-feeding, home ransacked.

By 2002, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Jie had seen many other practitioners from Liaoning Province brutally persecuted and disabled by torture, and their families torn apart. Ms. Wang and fellow practitioners decided to collect persecution evidence and publish the names of the perpetrators. However, Ms Wang did not realize her phone was being monitored and she was arrested in October 2002 by officers from the Tieling Police Station, which was controlled by Wang Lijun at the time. She was hung by her handcuffs on a wall for two days and nights, and sentenced to seven years in prison. When she finally got out of the hell-like prison in October 2009 she was extremely weak and had contracted bladder cancer. She passed away at 9:45 a.m. on April 21st, 2012.

Several days before she passed away, Ms. Wang revealed just how evil the Dabei Jail in Shenyang was. She retold her nightmare, “I was arrested in the Ninth Brigade. The 49 year-old female captain's name was Wu Li. The instructor's name was Li Hong. In June 2003, Wu and Li, as well as many other criminal prisoner collaborators singled me out and began to brutally force-feed me. I was extremely weak at that time, but they force-fed me so brutally it was as if they were trying to kill me. Later Dabei Jail moved to a new location and the police from Ninth Brigade became even more brutal to the prisoners. Every morning the police called out the name of a Falun Gong practitioner and the police would take turns shocking her with electric batons. Most practitioners were shocked because they could not finish the massive amount of labour they were assigned. The police and prisoners forced Falun Gong practitioner Liu Xia to "transform" [forcibly renounce Falun Gong]. They taped her mouth and entire body, and secretly carried her to the second floor. We never heard from her again. These seven years were so evil and scary. I dare not think more about it.”

Once she said these words, she passed out.

Witnessing Miserable Scenes of Falun Gong Practitioners Being Tortured

When the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started persecuting Falun Gong back in July 1999, Ms. Wang went to Beijing to appeal. Police officers arrested her and took her to the Longshan Forced Labour Camp in Shenyang City. While there, she witnessed CCP officials shocking Ms. Han Tianzi, a young, 15-year-old Falun Gong practitioner, with electric batons. Sadly, Ms. Han turned fifteen years old amidst the sights and sounds of electric batons and the smell of burning flesh. Ms. Wang also saw a guard inserting an electric baton into a senior practitioner's mouth, and practitioners being subjected to sleep derivation for extended periods of time.

In June 2001, when Ms. Wang held a hunger strike to protest the CCP's persecution, she was taken to the Shenyan City Underground Supervision Hospital. There she met Ms. Zou Guirong, who had been tortured to near mental collapse at the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. She also spoke with Ms. Yin Liping, whose body was covered with cuts and bruises, and Ms. Zhao Suhuan and Ms. Zhou Yanbo. They all cried as they described how they had been tortured. Ms. Yin was detained at four different labour camps, including the notorious Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. Inmates there were ordered to place needles under Ms. Yin's wrists, lift her hands up and drop them directly over the needles. Overnight, the back of her hands became very swollen and her wrists were a bloody mess.

At the Shenxin Forced Labour Camp, Ms. Yin went on a hunger strike to protest the fact that the guards were holding her beyond her designated incarceration term. When police officer Guo Yong was taking Ms. Yin to a room to force-feed her, he repeatedly struck her back to the point where she was almost paralyzed. Ms. Zhao Suhuan recounted how the guards at the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp ordered an inmate to use her nails to pinch Ms. Zhao's inner thighs. After her thighs became severely ulcerated, the inmates, under the direction of the guards, began kicking her thighs with their heavy leather shoes.

Ms. Zhao could only use the towel, which had previously been used to wash her face as well as for cleaning her body during her period, to bandage her wounded thighs. The guards deprived Ms. Zhao of sleep, locked her in a toilet, and had her eyelids repeatedly slapped until they were black and blue. In addition, police officer Zhang Xiurong forbade anyone from giving Ms. Zhao any toiletry items. Another practitioner, Ms. Zhou Yanbo, was tortured so badly that her pulse had reached an alarming 130 beats per minute. In April 2001, guards at the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp secretly moved all three female practitioners into male inmate cells. The practitioners were extremely opposed to this vicious, illegal, and immoral arrangement. Only when their lives were in mortal danger did the guards take them back to the women's section of the labour camp.

In April 2002, Ms. Zou Guirong passed away while being tortured in the Wujiabao Forced Labour Camp in Fushun City (see http://en.minghui.org/html/articles/2002/5/8/21794.html).

Before she died, Ms. Zou said, "It is too evil for words! We were transferred from the wolf's den to the tiger's den. The CCP is doing things that only scoundrels would do. There is no hope for the CCP at all!"

There were many practitioners in Liaoning Province who were tortured so badly that it hurt just to look at them. There were reports coming in on a regular basis detailing how imprisoned practitioners were injured or disabled, how they suffered mental collapses, how some were tortured to death, how their families were broken apart, how their spouses left, taking their sons or daughters with them, how their spouses filed for divorce, and how they had to leave home to avoid being arrested after they were released.

Ms. Wang Jie, Ms. Wang Shaojie, and other practitioners vowed to collect evidence that proved that these practitioners were tortured, with eyewitness testimonials and legal documents. They were trying to take overseas some of the practitioners who were tortured to the point of being disabled, so that people around the world could see how the CCP persecutes Falun Gong practitioners.

On October 8th, 2002, police officers from the Yinbei Station in Tieling City entered the home of Mr. Wang Hongshu, Mr. Zhang Bo, and Ms. Yin Liping, and illegally arrested them. The police had been monitoring the practitioners' phone line and discovered that they had just finished compiling a document that was ready to submit to the International Criminal Court to sue the CCP officials who had persecuted practitioners.

Faced with witnesses and indisputable evidence, police officers arrested these practitioners instead of arresting the true criminals. They also confiscated all of the documented proof that the practitioners had painstakingly collected, including all of the photos of practitioners being tortured. Ms. Wang Jie, Ms. Cai Shaojie, Ms. Li Weixun's brother Mr. Li Weiji, and two other female practitioners were also arrested. Ms. Wang was detained in the Tieling City Detention Centre where she held a hunger strike to protest her imprisonment. Another practitioner was in critical condition after going on a hunger strike and had to be carried away. Mr. Wang Hongshu, Ms. Yin Liping, and another practitioner were each sentenced to three years of forced labour and tortured at the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp.

On March 5th, 2003, a trial was held at the Yinzhou District Court in Tieling City. Ms. Wang, Ms. Cai Shaojie, and Mr. Zhang Bo were each sentenced to seven years in prison. Police officers tortured Mr. Li Weiji in an effort to extract a confession out of him, and through the torture he became disabled. He was later sentenced to eight years in prison.

The Special Rapporteur on the Right to Freedom of Opinion, working jointly with the Special Rapporteur on Torture and the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General's Human Rights Defenders, sent an urgent appeal concerning Wang Jie, Cai Shaojie, and non-practitioner Li Weiji on October 26th, 2004. Li Weiji was being detained at the Panjin Prison. It was reported that cruel beatings led to fractures in both of his arms and a slipped disc, which made it difficult for him to walk.

The Persecution Suffered by Ms. Wang Jie

Ms. Wang Jie was a staff member of the street affairs section at the Yijing Street Administration Office. Prior to her beginning Falun Gong cultivation practice in 1997, she had many illnesses. She consulted a number of doctors at various facilities. Despite spending considerable sums of money, her illnesses still couldn't be cured. This led to her divorce. After practising Falun Gong, all of her illnesses disappeared. She was diligent at work and well respected. She remarried her husband, and her family became harmonious and happy. She was also one with many talents, including writing, public speaking, and singing. She had earned various awards in each of these fields.

When the Chinese Communist Party began to persecute Falun Gong in 1999, Wang Jie resolutely went to Beijing to appeal and tell people the facts about Falun Gong. The authorities arrested her and sent her to the Longshan Forced Labour Camp in Shenyang. Along with another 39 incarcerated practitioners, she went on a protest hunger strike to call attention to the plight of a young girl named Han Tianzi, whom the prison guards had electrically shocked. Wang Jie was subsequently transferred to a penitentiary located in Zaohua, also called Women's Self-strengthening School. She continued her protest hunger strike for more than 100 days. She was then transferred to the notorious Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Shenyang. The camp officials refused to accept her because of her poor health. The authorities finally called her family to take the dying woman home. Because she was able to do the exercises and study Falun Gong teachings at home, Wang Jie recovered very quickly. Two months later, when she was handing out materials exposing the persecution of Falun Gong, someone reported her to the police. She was arrested again but broke free from her captors with the power of her righteous thoughts. In 2001, the police raided a site for producing materials exposing the persecution of Falun Gong, and Wang Jie was arrested for the third time. She was released following a seven-day protest hunger strike.

In October 2002 in Tieling City, Ms. Wang was arrested for the fourth time. Three practitioners, including Mr. Wang Jie, were hung by their handcuffs for two days. The weight of their bodies was borne by their wrists and arms, which was agonizingly painful. The severe torture caused Mr. Wang Jie to lose all feeling in his thumbs for six months. He also couldn’t lift his right arm for eight years afterward. During the time that Ms. Wang was held in Tieling Detention Centre, her husband visited her every ten days or so and brought her a quantity of food each time. Every time Ms. Wang would only keep very little for her self and gave most of the food to other prisoners and Falun Gong practitioners. She also helped other prisoners who had lost the ability to take care of themselves, and washed their clothes and helped them shower. The police locked the arms and legs of the practitioners holding hunger strikes to the ground. Ms. Wang carried containers to take away the practitioners' urine and feces so they would not have to lie in filth. When they could not push the feces out, Ms. Wang used her fingers to help, so that the practitioners would be in less pain. She talked to the prisoners every day about the persecution facts and she also sang the Falun Gong songs written by practitioners. As a result, some prisoners began practising Falun Gong.

In 2003, Ms. Wang was sentenced to seven years in prison and was held in Liaoning Women's Jail. She held firm in her belief the entire time. She was severely abused and tortured while unlawfully imprisoned and held hunger strikes several times to protest the persecution. Her life was in peril several times. Her hunger strikes sometimes lasted for six months. Long-term hunger strikes left her with gastric atrophy. The prison guards force-fed her as a means of torture. She became emaciated, and was able to survive only due to her righteous and firm belief in Falun Gong.

When she was released from jail after seven years, she was extremely weak and frequently incontinent. But with the amazing power of Falun Gong, she recovered once again. However, due to the gastric atrophy, she could eat very little and was not able to eat if she drank water beforehand.

On the morning of September 26th, 2010, director Liu from the Xinxing Police Station, in Heping District, Shenyang City led six plainclothes officers to arrest Ms. Wang at her home. Officer Zhang and others also confiscated Falun Gong books, mobile phones, and computers. Ms. Wang was sent to Shenyang City Detention Centre. Officers from the Xinxing Police Station said it was not their case, and that it was ordered from “above.”

Later, Ms. Wang had blood in her urine and was bleeding severely. Her family took her to the Second Hospital of Shenyang Medical School's emergency department on April 11th, 2012. She passed away on April 21st. April 21st is also the birthday of Ms. Wang's daughter, who is studying in England. How will the child face the news that her mother died due to severe torture by the CCP?

After her death it rained for an entire day and night. Ms. Wang's friends and families said, “This is injustice. Even the heavens are crying for her!”
