On Tuesday, 16th July, the Irish Falun Dafa association held a press conference to commemorate the 3rd anniversary of the crackdown on Falun Gong in China.

The press conference was held at the same time as the poster exhibition "The Journey of Falun Dafa" was being displayed. The purpose of the press conference was to reveal the extent of Jiang's persecution in China and the persecution suffered by Irish practitioners. Details of upcoming events, including a letter signing marathon and a peaceful rally, were also disclosed at the press conference.

Apart from news releases about Zhao Ming, Irish practitioners seldom had great success with media. Many Irish practitioners felt that this was because there was little personal contact between practitioners and media reporters.

In this, and with other instances, we felt that we needed to improve and think of the reporters first. We prepared the press pack with this in mind; the contents were clear, concise and focused solely on the information that the reporters would need. We also gave them a copy of the press pack on a computer disk, so that the reporter could easily access the information.

Some things went wrong in the preparation; for example, when contacting and sending out some media releases, the fax machine would not work properly. However, other faxes had been sent on the machine without a problem. Despite the problems, practitioners persisted.

On the day, 2 of the major newspapers showed up, with one photographer. At present, one report has already been published.

The shortcomings that were revealed by the press conference have been reminders of the importance of more open communication and the need for working together harmoniously.
