Mr. Feng Guangyun, who was persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) because he practised Falun Gong, passed away on February 6th, 2010.

Mr. Feng was a retiree from the Activity Division of the Qiqihaer Branch of the Daqing Railroad. Prior to starting to practice Falun Gong on May 2nd, 1998, Mr. Feng had many illnesses. He had stomach problems and rheumatoid arthritis, and walking was difficult and painful. After starting to practise Falun Gong, his illnesses were healed and his life became more purposeful as he required himself to live up to the standards of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and become a better person.

After the CCP started to brutally persecute Falun Gong in July 1999, Mr. Feng wanted to let people know that Falun Gong is good, so he went to Beijing to appeal on July 21st, October 10th, November 20th and December 25th, 2000. He was detained, abused and beaten by the CCP policemen.

In May 2002, Mr. Feng was taken into custody by four policemen from the Qiqihaer Railroad Police Station, and was detained and persecuted at the Qiqihaer Railroad Detention Centre. Mr. Feng was sentenced to two years in a forced labour camp and sent to the notorious Daqing Forced Labour Camp. After he arrived there, he was physically and verbally abused on a daily basis, and he was also tortured. One time, deputy chief Zhang Mingzhu of Group No. 2 slapped Mr. Feng in the face very hard while he was filling out a form. His face swelled up right away, and he was unable to eat because of the pain. The following is his narrative of when he was persecuted at the Daqing Forced Labour Camp:

"In December 2002, the prison guard instructed criminals to force me to 'transform' [forcibly renounce Falun Gong]. They took me to the washroom, stripped my clothes off, opened the window, and four prisoners poured cold water on me. I was shaking from the cold. They then asked me fiercely if I was 'transformed.' I firmly said, 'No!' The prison guard instructed three prisoners to closely monitor me. I was sitting on an iron chair with my hands and feet handcuffed and I could not move. Prisoner Li Jingping used the tip of his shoes to smear saliva on my mouth, and he also used slippers to dip in the chamber pot and smear urine on my mouth. Prisoners Dong Rujiang and Li Jingping knew that Falun Gong practitioners do not smoke, so they intentionally blew cigarette smoke in my face.

"Since I did not give in, I was allowed to sleep for only two hours a day. At night the prison guard forced me to sit in front of the chamber pot, and I had to take off the lid when someone needed to use it and put the lid back on when they were done. They freely beat and cursed me with insulting phrases. In addition to heavy labour during the day, they also forced me to jog. I am too old and couldn't run, so prisoners would drag me to run. I was so tired and out of breath. When we ate in the dining hall, every Falun Gong practitioner was taken in by three prisoners, with one prisoner following behind hitting and choking him."

To force Mr. Feng to renounce practising Falun Gong, the prison guards tortured him. They poured cold water on him, tied him on a chair, and poured urine down his throat, etc. They instructed prisoners to use many ways to torture him, and told him, " If you don't 'transform,' I will torture you every day, so that you cannot live well and will not die in peace." Because of the brutal torture, Mr. Feng's systolic blood pressure went up to 170mm-200mm, and deputy group leader Wang Yingzhou forced him to take drugs. Wang Yingzhou said fiercely, "Today you will take the medicine whether you want to or not." He went to look for four prisoners to hold Mr. Feng to the floor. Wang Yingzhou put his foot on Mr. Feng's chest, and used two screwdrivers to pry open Mr. Feng's mouth, while doctor Tain put the powdered drug into his mouth. Mr. Feng stood up and said loudly, "You are taking this to extremes; you should think about your family and children." The next day, deputy director Wang Yongxiang and section chief Han Qingshan went to make their rounds of the prison cells. Mr Feng said loudly to Wang Yingzhou, "I am a citizen. Can't I decide whether or not to take medication? Force feeding? Where is the law? This is the behaviour of savages."

After leaving the forced labour camp, due to the physical and mental torture, Mr. Feng was extremely weak, his old rheumatoid arthritis came back, and not only did he have difficulty walking, he also had ascites, which eventually progressed to liver cancer. He did not get well from medical treatment and passed away at 6:00 a.m. on the morning of February 6th, 2010. He was 73 years old.
