56-Year-Old Ms. Yang Qin of Chongqing Arrested for the Fifth Time

On February 3rd, 2010, when Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yang Qin was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong at the food market, she was arrested by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials. The officials told her family members that she would be detained for fifteen days, however after Ms. Yang had a full physical examination, she was sent to the Women's Forced Labour Camp for further persecution. Ms. Yang went on a long-term hunger strike to protest the persecution, and was eventually sent to a hospital once her life was in danger. Ms. Yang has now been arrested five times.

Ms. Yang Qin began practising Falun Gong in 1996. She has since often been harassed, followed and threatened by telephone, and the whole family has been very nervous and afraid.

In late 2000, Ms. Yang Qin went to Beijing to appeal against the persecution of Falun Gong and she was detained at Tongliang Detention Centre for several months. A leader of the Municipal Administration Bureau ordered the police to use cigarettes to burn her feet if she practised Falun Gong in the detention centre.

In November 2001, Ms. Yang was again arrested and sent without due process to the Jingkou Brainwashing Centre in Chongqing, where she was persecuted for seven months. During that period her employer was forced to pay 3,000 yuan¹ per month.

In 2005, when she was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and the persecution, Ms. Yang Qin was arrested and later detained at Tongliang Detention Centre for 15 days.

In April 2006, seven CCP officers broke into Ms. Yang's home and arrested her. Without any legal documents, they sent her to Maojiashan Women's Forced Labour Camp in Chongqing. She was secretly sentenced to one and a half years of imprisonment. Ms. Yang Qin was brutally beaten by drug addicts in the labour camp. As she was forced to squat for long periods of time and was extremely weak, her whole body became swollen. Her physical condition was very poor after the torture. The labour camp was afraid to take responsibility and released her for medical treatment.
