My name is Ma Xianling and I am a Falun Gong practitioner from Beijing. I used to suffer from several diseases including duodenal ulcer, pelvic infection, enteritis, nerve damage, and frequent convulsions. The pain of my suffering was beyond description.

My husband was tired of this kind of life, and he often beat me. My mother-in-law and my sisters-in-law all cursed me because I was a disabled person. They also instigated my husband to beat me. Eventually we divorced for a year. It was our two daughters who made me feel in my heart that this was not right. The physical pain and my unfortunate family life made me lose confidence in continuing my life. At that time, I could do nothing and had difficulty even walking.

After learning Falun Gong, I not only recovered from all my illnesses, the eye glasses that I had worn for over ten years were put away, and no longer used. My mother-in-law suffered from lung and heart diseases, and she could hardly get up out of bed. I still did not hate her and I took care of her every day. I followed Falun Gong's teaching of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" to be a good person. My husband suffered from tuberculosis and it spread to my son. In facing the three family members' medical expenditures, I found a day-time job, and at night I still took care of my mother-in-law. In the countryside, the conditions were very poor so I always ate the leftovers, having no complaints or hatred. I am a Falun Gong practitioner, and I should think about others before I think about myself.

After July 20th, 1999 when the Chinese Communist Party started to persecute Falun Gong, I was detained twice and sent to brainwashing classes, and twice to the forced labour camp.

I was arrested the first time at the end of 2004 while I was giving out Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution with another fellow practitioner. We were reported and arrested by the police from Huairou County. The police tried to force me to tell them the source of the materials and also the names of my fellow practitioners. I refused to co-operate with them and they started to beat me. In the end, they did not get anything. I was forced to sit on a cold metal chair, and was confined to a small cell, but no matter how they persecuted me, they could not change my heart of being determined in cultivating Falun Gong. Half a year later, because of the fact that I was severely persecuted, I was bailed out for medical treatment. After coming home, the police came continuously to interfere with me. Whenever the sensitive dates came, the staff of the Chinese Communist Party came to my home to harass us. During the two conferences, I went home to visit my father and was arrested. Without producing any evidence or search warrant, they forcefully searched my home and threatened my family. My children were were very frightened. My young children had no one to take care of them, causing big losses at home. One month later, I was bailed out waiting at home for the trial.

On October 24th, 2006, two policemen arrived , bringing along the village cadres. They asked me to go to the police station to sign my name, and said that the term was not due for the bail. I said I wouldn't go. The officer said I could return home after this was done. He told me that if I was not sure, my family could also come. Then the police and the village cadres worked together to drag me into the vehicle. They handed me a ticket stating I was sentenced to forced labour as soon as I stepped out of the vehicle. The police asked me to sign my name, which I refused. Then they found two people to hold me up and forced me to have my photo taken. In this way, my fellow practitioners and myself were deceived by them to go to the detention centre.

I went on a hunger strike to protest. After that, I did not co-operate with them in any of their demands and orders. And we called out loud "Falun Gong is good." In the evening, we studied the Falun Gong teachings and did the exercises.

Seven days later, I was sent to Daxing Transferring Centre. The team leader, Yang Xinjuan, asked me to write the three statements. When I refused, she ordered two drug-addicts to look after me and jail me in a room without allowing me to go to the washroom, drink water or shower. The officer named Yang Shujuan instigated the prisoners to curse at me continuously. The door was opened at a time when the wind was strong. They forced me to lie down facing the door without changing my position. Physically I could not stand it and could not help having tics and convulsions. My tongue had painful cracks, but they claimed that I was pretending.

This kind of persecution made my physical body worse and worse one day after another. I could not speak clearly, and I could only hold the wall while walking. But those officers still said that I was pretending. They forced me to carry the water, but I could not keep up with them and fell far behind. Once, I could not continue and was punished by an officer named Zhang Yuting, who made me stand up. During the morning drill, I could not continue; they said it was not acceptable if I did not go. Another officer named Liu Yuying said that it was not ok that my voice was too low in answering. She punished another fellow practitioner and me by telling us to stand. One day, as I arrived at the playground,I did not know if I could continue to forbear. However, even though I had just arrived, the police told me to walk back. With great difficulty, I walked to the door and fell down, losing consciousness.

On October 30th, 2008, I went home after being bailed out for medical treatment. I could not walk on the floor. Every day, my children took care of me. However the police from the forced labour camp did not let me go. With their threatening and coercion, my family had to phone them once a week and report to them once a month. Whenever it comes to sensitive dates, they came to harass us.

Cultivation changed me from a sick person to a healthy person. However after being persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party, I had my own personal experience of being changed from a healthy person to a sick person.
