Mr. Niu Suiye and His Wife Ms. Wang Zhilan from Gangu County, Gansu Province Have Been Arrested, Their Whereabouts Unknown

On January 21st, 2010 Mr. Niu Suiye and Mrs. Wang Zhilan, a couple from Qijia Village, Xinxing Town, Gangu County, Gansu Province were arrested for practising Falun Gong. They are still being detained and their whereabouts are unknown.

The arrest was carried out at about 10:00 a.m. on January 21st, 2010 by a group of police headed by Gou Yabin, chief of the National Security Group of the Gangu County Police Department. They broke into Mr. Niu's home, took away his computer, a printer and some Falun Gong books, then arrested Mr. Niu and Ms. Wang.

Mr. Niu and Ms. Wang started to practise Falun Gong in 1998. In their everyday life they always conducted themselves according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and would lend a hand whenever there was a need. They led a frugal and happy life and regarded their personal interests as unimportant. Ms. Wang had suffered from parotitis for many years, but recovered without taking any medicine after she began practising Falun Gong. Her relatives and neighbours were surprised by her recovery and genuinely believed that Falun Gong is good.

After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started to persecute Falun Gong Ms. Wang went to Beijing to appeal, but was arrested by police. When she was interrogated she was cuffed to a chair without being allowed to go to the toilet and was slapped in the face. The police also extorted money from her.
