Mr. Li Zhengju and his family have been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) since July 1999, when the CCP first began persecuting this group of people pursuing the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Because of the persecution, Mr. Li has become homeless and his wife, Xie Jingxiang, has been held hostage for over six months by the Domestic Security Division of the Police Department of Minquan County.

Arrested

On June 17th, 2009, officers from the Minquan County Police Department and Shunhe Police Station forced their way into Mr. Li's home. The reason given for the break-in was that the Li family received a letter advising them to be good people. The authorities suspected that the letter was sent by Mr. Li, who was avoiding the police by having left home.

Approximately twenty police officers ransacked Mr. Li's home, then took his wife and son hostage, and held them in the Minquan County Detention Centre. Mr. Li's wife and son were soon released, but a week later, Du Yuanming, commander of the Domestic Security Division, along with his deputy, Bai Zhongyao, returned and took his wife to the Minquan County Detention Centre. She has been held for over six months now, leaving her children at home alone.

Multiple Incidents of Persecution

On January 11th, 2003, Mr. Li played a DVD at a village meeting showing how the CCP
had slandered Falun Gong practitioners. He was reported by Li Shenghai, the village CCP secretary. That evening, the director of the Shunhexiang Police Station in Minquan County and several police officers broke into Mr. Li's house and ransacked it but found nothing. Mr. Li was not home at the time, but his mother was so frightened that she suffered a heart attack. She passed away on February 17th, 2003. Mr. Li became homeless at that time to avoid arrest.

On May 1st, 2003, Mr. Li returned to the village. While passing by the village government building, he was recognised by a staff member of the Shunhexiang Police Station. Six officers arrested him and put him in their jail. At around midnight, Mr. Li was able to remove his handcuffs. He escaped, and left the village.

In October 2003, Mr. Li returned to his home. Once again, the director of the Shunhexiang Police Station and his deputy arrested him and held him in the county detention centre. Mr. Li refused to answer questions and began a hunger strike. Officials released him after eight days but kept monitoring his home.

In January 2004, Mr. Li's brother, Li Zhengchao, was distributing fact sheets about Falun Gong in Caoxian City, Shandong Province, and was reported to officials. Again, the director of the Shunhexiang Police Station and his deputy, along with Huang Zhongyi, commander of the Domestic Security Division, and others arrested him and took him to the county detention centre. Then the director of the Shunhexiang Police Station, Li Changyu, with officer Lu Yingnan and others took him to the Third Forced Labour Camp of Xuchang City, Henan Province, where he was held for one year.

On March 1st, 2005, Mr. Li was explaining the facts about Falun Gong to the public in Caoxian City, Shandong Province. A drunken police officer reported him to the Nijixiang Police Station in Caoxian City. Over ten officers took him to the Nijixiang Police Station, where he was severely beaten. They stomped on his face and body and whipped him with a belt. He was taken to the Caoxian Detention Centre the next day and sentenced to four years in Tai'an Prison in Shandong Province.

Mr. Li's wife is not a practitioner, but she was nonetheless held in the Caoxian Detention Centre for four months, then released after officials extorted 5,000 yuan1 from her.

While Mr. Li was in Tai'an Prison, his son, Li Minzheng, was attending Minquan High School. He suffered a strange illness that forced him to stay at home fairly regularly. He had no choice but to practise Falun Gong. In less than a month his illness was gone. He was so happy that he told his classmates about it. When the local police heard about it, they arrested him, on December 25th, 2007. He was taken to the Third Forced Labour Camp in Xuchang City, Henan Province, and held for one year. Li Minzheng was not yet 19 years old at the time.

CCP members also went to Mr. Li's home to harass him on so-called sensitive dates. He is again being persecuted and living away from his home.
