Ms. Dong Xiuqiong's statement of her experiences of persecution:

Before I started practising Falun Gong, I had all kinds of illnesses: heart disease, autonomic dysfunction, cholecytitis, nephritis, enteritis, tracheitis, lumbar disc hyperosteogeny, and hyperplasia. These illnesses caused pain over my whole body and I could not take care of myself in my daily life.

After I started practising Falun Gong, I gradually recovered from many of my illnesses. I could sleep well and do some household chores. My family members did not need to worry about me any more, and I saved a huge amount of money on medical expenses for our family. My family lived a happy life.

After the persecution began in 1999, the police often called and harassed us and would not allow me to practise Falun Gong. To help people who had been deceived by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) learn the truth about Falun Gong, we began to distribute leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. For doing this, we suffered frequent persecution.

One night in July 2002, I, my younger sister and younger brother, also practitioners, travelled some distance to Xinfa Township to distribute Falun Gong leaflets. We were reported by a villager whose last name is Liu. He kicked me, beat me and caused my nose to bleed. A big lump appeared on my head, and my body was black and blue. He also took 386 yuan1 away from my younger sister and me. He kept 100 yuan and gave the rest of the money to Yu Minggang, a police officer from the Tongan Police Station.

Yu Minggang and three other police officers handcuffed our hands behind our backs and then bound them with rope. They stuffed our mouths with tissues and gloves. They forced us to kneel down inside a Jeep and then drove us to the Tongan Police Station. Around 2 p.m. the next day, Yang Shaoliang and Li Youngkun from the National Security Team transferred us to the county detention centre from the Tongan Police Station. My younger sister was detained at the detention centre.

At the detention centre, I was interrogated three times (twice by Wu Yan and Li Youngkun, once by Lu Jianrong and Li Youngkun.) They asked me where the materials had come from. I did not tell them. They threatened my family members and ordered them to force me to tell. I still did not tell them. They detained me for 24 days, then extorted 3,000 yuan from my family and released me. Before they let me go, they read me a piece of paper: "You are not allowed to go back to your parents' home. You are not allowed to distribute materials. You are not allowed to get in touch with other Falun Gong practitioners."

From 2003 to 2004, my family often suffered harassment from the Chengnan Police Station. Deng from Chengnan Police Station brought several police officers with him, as well as Ma Jianlin and Wen Xiaohong from the National Security Team. They came to harass us and make it impossible for us to live a peaceful life.

On November 28th, 2005, a fellow practitioner and I went to Nange Town to distribute Falun Gong leaflets. We were arrested by Wang Dingjun, the militia commander, Peng Xinglong, the chief of the village, Sun Dehua, the Party Secretary of the village and a militia. Wang Dingjun called Hongqi Police Station. Two police officers came and took us to the Hongqi Police Station. Yang Shaoliang and Jiang Fengliang from the National Security Team went to the police station and violently dragged us to the detention centre and detained us there for 15 days.

On December 22nd, a fellow practitioner and I went to Dajuan village, Nange Town to put up posters exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. Once again, Peng Xinglong reported us. We were arrested by the National Security Team and detained for 15 days.

On March 9th, 2007, a fellow practitioner and I went to Aimin Village of Guoyuan Town to distribute leaflets and tell people the facts about Falun Gong . We were reported by a villager. Yang Shaoliang, Jiang Fengliang, Pu Maohua, and Liu Jianping from the National Security Team came and tried to arrest me. I would not go with them. Yang Shaoliang dragged me on the ground for several metres. Later they detained me in the detention centre. On March 12th, Liu Jianping interrogated me. They handcuffed both of my hands. When they could not get answers for their questions, he took a book and slapped my face hard with it twice. At the detention centre, since I did not agree to give my fingerprints, Qin Shijun, the director of the detention centre, Deng Huiming, and Lu Hongyou ordered criminals to put shackles on my feet. On March 28th, they wanted to photograph me. Because I was wearing shackles, I could not walk at a fast pace. Police officer Zhou Chaoyong slapped my face. They took off the shackles until April 5, the day I was to be transferred to the detention centre. On May 15th, because I was quite sick, Qi Xiingyou, the director of the detention centre and two drug addicts took me to a hospital for a check-up. The doctor diagnosed me with high blood pressure and heart trouble. They had to send me back to my family so that they could monitor me.

From 2008 to 2009, once again my family was harassed by the police. During the Olympic Games and the Huili Pomegranate Festival, they ordered my husband to monitor me and would not allow me to step out of the house. On the morning of April 25th, 2009, Yang Shaoliang led several police and ransacked my home. They took away a copy of the Falun Gong book, Zhuan Falun, MP3s, and Falun Gong leaflets.
