From September 9 to 13, 2009, Lunen, a small northern town in Nodrhein-Westfalen, Germany, celebrated its 30th anniversary. The anniversary celebration drew around 100,000 people from the town and surrounding cities. This was the fourth time that practitioners from the nearby city of Dortmund took part in the festival to introduce Falun Gong to the people there.

The oasis of the city day

Just as it said on the website of Ruhr nachrichten, the second largest newspaper in Dortmund: "'City Day' was very lively. Among all the buzzing excitement was a tranquil oasis, where Ms. Wei Liu (a Falun Gong practitioner) practised Falun Dafa, also called Falun Gong. It is an ancient Chinese method filled with wisdom, and can improve body and mind. Ms. Liu told the reporter that, in China, Falun Gong is being persecuted."

This year the city festival took place over four days. Falun Gong's peaceful music and exercises caught the attention of many. The local television station and newspaper also carried a report. People took informational flyers and asked about the situation of Falun Gong. Some stopped to watch, and several young German girls learned how to make paper lotus flowers.

"I want to learn Falun Gong with my friends"

On the evening of the first day of the festival, just after the practitioners had packed up their display table and tent and were ready to leave, a German man and his son hurried over. The man pointed at the box filled with materials and asked, "Could I possibly have some flyers? I have some friends that would like to learn Falun Gong. Could we arrange a time for you to come and teach us?"

Ms. Rossmann learned about Falun Gong from the Ruhr newspaper. She especially came to the Falun Gong table to get more information. She herself had a large villa, where she had held many sessions for stress relief. When she saw many people showing interest in Falun Gong, she enthusiastically invited the practitioners to her villa to introduce the practice.

An older Chinese couple and their daughter were very happy to learn about Falun Gong. They took flyers and other informational materials so that they could read them at home.

People condemn the CCP persecution

After a German couple understood the true situation on the first day, the wife signed the petition calling for an end to the CCP's harvesting of organs from living practitioners. The next day, the husband came to the Falun Gong table just to sign the petition.

The husband of a couple from Stechert had heard before about the persecution of Falun Gong in China. When he saw the petition form, he immediately called his wife over to sign it. Another couple that signed also inquired about how they could help practitioners stop the persecution.

Four members of one family all expressed a great interest in Falun Gong. While the father listened to a practitioner's explanation of the facts, he narrated to his two children what was happening in China. After the father signed his name, his son, Alves Fabian, also signed the petition.
