On February 1st, the Divine Land Marching Band, consisting entirely of Falun Gong practitioners, was invited to perform at the 2009 Lantern Festival in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The Lantern Festival is the most important local event in Kaohsiung. Ma Ying-jeou, President of Taiwan, and the Mayor of Kaohsiung chaired the ceremony of lighting the lanterns.

The Divine Land Marching Band took part in the festival parade. The parade spectators numbered in the thousands. Falun Gong practitioners also passed out information about the upcoming Divine Performing Arts New Year Splendor, coming to Taiwan in late February. Many people asked for detailed information about the show.
