Amato Akarana, an elder of the Nga Puhi Maori people, signed the "Global One Million Signature Campaign" petition on behalf of the Maori Tribal Union. Initiated by the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong, the petition urges the world to take actions to end the persecution of Falun Gong before the Beijing Olympics.
Mr. Akarana said, "We request the Chinese Communist Party to immediately stop the practice of harvesting organs from living Falun Gong practitioners. Our tribal union will support Falun Gong for good. We feel sad for the victims of the persecution."
