LONDON—An award-winning journalist says that as a Buddhist, he could identify with the spiritual message in the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular, currently playing at London's Royal Festival Hall.

Roy Stone works for the Daily Telegraph. He came to the show with his wife Pat, a primary school teacher, on Saturday evening. Pat is also a Buddhist.

"I think it's a wonderful show, it absolutely fits in with my philosophy of life, very spiritual, very uplifting, humanist and joyful," said Stone.

He said the show provides a great picture of China and shows a common humanity around the world.

"Absolutely marvellous. I believe that joy is a huge part of our lives and that's what came across in the show—rejoicing in the spiritual side as well as the normal side," he said.

"What I felt was good about the show was that it showed ordinary people defeating a bad authority and oppression and that ordinary people can make a stand. That's a very powerful message."

His wife, Pat, said it was nice to see and hear the ancient Chinese stories.

"I think in Mainland China a lot of that has been lost," she said.

She enjoyed the contemporary dances too.

"I liked the performances where the communists came on and they were the baddies but they were defeated and sent off. It was about the people winning.

"There were scenes from heaven and the message that the spiritual side of life was winning and helping people in their everyday lives."

Pat added that anyone who likes Chinese things would enjoy watching the Spectacular.
