At lunch time on October 29th, 2007, the wardens of Group 5 of Changlinzi Forced Labour Camp in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, searched the prisoners' personal belongs in their cells without any notice for "security reasons." Practitioner Mr. Lang Xianguo's Falun Gong was taken away. Mr. Lang tried to argue with the wardens, and they agreed to give the booklet to his family the next visitation day. There was one condition, however, and that was that the prisoners had to resume their forced labour because they had begun a strike to protest the labour in mid-October, 2007. Lang Xianguo firmly refused this "deal." At dinnertime when all the inmates were present, Lang Xianguo and other practitioners shouted, "Falun Dafa is good!" and "Stop the persecution!" The negotiations continued in the evening, but there was no satisfactory resolution.

At breakfast on October 31st, practitioners again shouted, "Falun Dafa is good!" and "Stop the persecution!" Wang Kai, the head of the group; the wardens; and some other inmates dragged him into a small cell and handcuffed him to an Iron Chair1. Mr. Lang was forced to sit on the Iron Chair for more than 12 days, even when he needed to go to the toilet. Then the wardens tortured Gong Wenyi and Han Weishi with the Iron Chair. They both shouted, "Falun Dafa is good!" Others joined them, and the wardens hit the practitioners with electronic batons. The continuous shouts from Group 5 let practitioners imprisoned in other groups know about the torture.

On December 16th, on the way to the cafeteria, practitioners in Group 5 shouted together, "Falun Dafa is good" three times. The wardens deprived the practitioners of the meal, and the practitioners shouted another three times. The wardens then took the practitioners to the workshop, where Wang Kai swore at them, and several inmates also swore and then beat practitioners Gu Qingsong and Huang Fenghe.

The inmates participating in the persecution were Ma Taiping, Zhang Dingli, Fu Xin, Zhang Xiaoqiu, and others. Under orders from Warden Wang Kai, the inmates started another round of torture of practitioners in their cells: they beat practitioners with a wooden bed board and hit their faces with slippers. Liu Jingzhou's face got swollen and disfigured from this treatment. Zhang Fa, a 60-year-old practitioner, had an attack of high blood pressure as a result of the torture. Gu Qingsong's leg was broken. One practitioner was beaten until he fell to the floor, but the inmates wouldn't stop abusing him, saying that he was faking. Gong Wenyi was forced to sit on an Iron Chair for 14 days while he was on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. Han Wei was also forced to sit on a Iron Chair for two days, and he was on a hunger strike at the same time to protest the persecution. Lang Xianguo was forced to sit on a Iron Chair for 17 days and was on a hunger strike for the same length of time. In a conversation between the director of the labour camp and Lang Xianguo, Mr. Lang agreed to resume eating after the director had promised to allow him to practise the Falun Dafa exercises.

One night after the daily work, inmate Ma Taiping, who had been drinking, yelled, "Dafa practitioners mustn't say 'Falun Dafa is good' any more." He punched practitioner Wu Hongzhu while they were in the workshop, and Wu Hongzhu shouted, "Falun Dafa is good!" Ma Taiping later beat practitioners Liu Jingzhou and Jiang Weimin brutally. Practitioner Gong Wenyi became very weak after his hunger strike, and Ma Taiping tortured him by trying to force him to eat human excrement.

On December 17th, inmate Ma Taiping was taken away by the Harbin Nangang Station Group because of other charges against him.
