A Good or Bad Outcome Comes From One Thought

Master said in Zhuan Falun,

"We have said that good or evil comes from a person's spontaneous thought, and the thought at that moment can bring about different consequences." (2000 English translation version)

My understanding is that we should always keep in mind this principle that Master has taught. But how can we live up to this?

One important aspect is that we should pay attention to each single thought. We should distinguish the thought based on whether it is our true self or an external thought, righteous or deviated, benevolent or evil, and whether or not it accords with the Fa - the principles taught in Falun Gong. If it is not righteous and benevolent, and it is not in accordance with a Fa principle, we should deny it by thinking "it is not me" and eliminate it. If we cannot do so, and continue to keep the devious thought, it could be dangerous, as the attachment could be used by the old forces to cause damage to sentient beings.

Our cultivation paths cannot always be smooth. One wrong thought could lead to a tumble or a big tribulation and hardship. A difference in one thought will bring different results.

For example, I am an accountant. One day in the winter of 1996, to cover the payroll, I went to the bank with a security guard to withdraw some cash. After I stepped out of the bank, I fell off the top of the sixth step for no apparent reason. I fell to the ground heavily and the bag full of cash flew out of my hand and into the street. The security guard picked up the bag and asked me if I was okay. His words reminded me of what Teacher said, "...good or evil comes from a person's spontaneous thought..." I gritted my teeth and stood up, saying I was fine. Actually, I was in a lot of pain at that moment. I thought all of my organs must be injured. But then I remembered what Teacher said, and I did not think that way nor express my thoughts out loud. I prepared to go back to work by patting the dirt off my clothes. As I patted, all of the pain disappeared! There wasn't any pain left and I also felt very light. I was surprised and happy. That night when I took off my clothes to go to bed, I examined myself. My cotton pants were torn, but my legs were not even bruised. I personally experienced a miracle of Dafa.

But why did I have this fall? I thought it might be Teacher reminding me of something. I thought, "When I fell and the money flew out of my hand, possibly it was Teacher reminding me to get rid of the attachment to self-interest. Otherwise I would tumble." From then on I paid attention to eliminating attachments to self-interest. I used my work bonus to help my colleagues with financial hardships, help my relatives, and establish a family materials site in 2005. Possibly many people have had my experience, so why do I write about it? Everyone's road is different. It doesn't matter what kind of tests we face or to what degree, the principle is always the same. Only if we treat tribulations with righteous thoughts can they make us improve. When we are righteous we consider every test or tribulation as an opportunity to improve in our cultivation.

Let us study the Fa more and better, be strict at looking inside, and measure our thoughts with the Fa. Then we will be able to eliminate the old forces completely, walk out of various tribulations, and succeed at accomplishing our historic missions.
