During the UN Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR) in Geneva, I had the opportunity to talk about Falun Gong with several representatives who were government officials, members of non-government organizations or UN staff. Here are some comments from some of them.

1. A member of a non-government organization: “I have seen Falun Gong for three consecutive years during the UNCHR. I have also read many related reports in my country. Freedom of belief is the basic right of a human being and should be protected. The last time I questioned representatives from China why (Jiang's government) persecuted this peaceful exercise, they said it harmed the society. This time I will ask them to show clear evidence. An autocratic government has a tendency to make false accusations. They can commit a murder and then claim the suspect practices Falun Gong. We firmly support and defend the human rights of Falun Dafa practitioners. Everyone has a right to speak out. We will help them [Falun Gong practitioners] to have a Falun Gong lecture at the UN and I will go to listen.”

2. A government official from an African country: “I don't understand at all why the Chinese (Jiang's) government persecutes Falun Gong. Yesterday I saw Falun Gong practitioners practice the exercises. It looked like no danger at all. (I explained to him the reason of the persecution.) My country depends on China's economy very much, so the government has not said anything about the Chinese government's persecution of Falun Gong. But in fact we have known all along what kind of government Jiang's is. In my country, we allow Falun Gong practitioners to freely practice, and also allow our non-government organizations to freely express their opinions on the issues with which they are concerned.”

3. A UN staff member: “In my opinion, the reason that the Chinese (Jiang's) government persecutes Falun Gong is that it is an atheistic government and it persecutes all religious believers. (I talked about my opinion: the fundamental reason behind the persecution of Falun Gong is that, by its nature, Jiang's government is against Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance.) He asked me, what did you say? What are those three words--Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance? Now I know why it is afraid--because the Chinese (Jiang's) government is not truthful, not compassionate, and not tolerant.”
