Practitioner Ms. Zhang Rongjie on Hunger Strike for More than One Week

We have recently learned that on May 11th, 2006, Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhang Rongjie was unjustly sentenced to twelve years in prison at the Xinshi District Court in Baoding City, Hebei Province. The charges are related to the incident where some Dafa practitioners tapped into the Tianjin TV network signal and broadcast videos exposing the persecution. Zhang Rongjie shouted, "Falun Dafa is good! Restore Dafa's reputation! Falun Dafa is a righteous practice!" every morning during her trial to protest the sentence and detention. The guards at Baoding City Detention Centre ordered the inmates to beat her until her face became swollen and she lost all feeling. Zhang Rongjie protested with a hunger strike opposing the persecution.

Zhang Rongjie was arrested several times before and was twice sent to a labour camp. After her arrest by Baoding City National Security Bureau agents on July 8th, 2005, she was first held at Hebei Province Security Bureau and then transferred to the Baoding City Detention Centre in October 2005. She had by then been on hunger strike for more than three months. The agents from the Baoding City Security Bureau tortured and interrogated her during the trial period.
