Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Tang Jianshu was 65 years old and lived in Chaoyang District, Beijing City. She started cultivating Falun Dafa in the early years, and after July 20th, 1999, when the persecution started, she went to Tiananmen Square, the Central Government Appeal Office, and the TV Station, as well as other places to appeal for Falun Dafa. She was arrested seven or eight times. When Ms. Tang was detained in the Haidian District Detention Centre, she was tortured with severe electric baton shocks, causing her body to be covered with scars. She was later sentenced to forced labour. When she was locked in the Tuanhe Forced Labour Camp Training/Distribution Ward, the handcuffs and ankle shackles were very tight, causing her wrists and ankles to be cut open.

After Tang Jianshu was released from the labour camp, she was harassed for a long time by police from the Xiangheyuan Station and agents from the 610 Office1. They tried to force her to go through a brainwashing class. Ms. Tang had to leave home to avoid being arrested once. Due to long-term mistreatment by the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) persecution, she became severely ill, had a blurry mind, could not speak clearly, experienced slow reactions, and could not recognise her friends or family. Ms. Tang Jianshu would walk on the street all day, picking up garbage (not due to financial difficulties). She died in October 2005.

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Huang Jinzhi was 78 years old and lived in Yanqing County, Beijing City. She learned Falun Dafa in 1996 and became very strong. Her grey hair gradually turned black. She went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa in 2000, and was detained twice for several months. Ms. Huang lived with either her son or daughter (both are practitioners), but their homes were ransacked eight or nine times. They were all threatened.

Since July 20th, 1999, Ms. Huang's son has been detained or forced to go through brainwashing sessions about seven times for practising Falun Dafa. Her daughter-in-law has also been detained and sentenced to prison. Her daughter and son-in-law have been sentenced to heavy prison terms. All of these mistreatments severely injured Ms. Huang, both mentally and physically. Around New Years Day 2005, she learned that her daughter was once again on hunger strike to protest the forced brainwashing in the Beijing Women's Prison. She was very worried and could not sleep for several days. The mental pressure was too much for her to endure. She suffered from a stroke and died on January 12th, 2005.
